Looking for a similar moving to pride and prejudice or the notebook. Something that isn't a comedy or cheesy. Where it's not easy love, but a good ending. I need a good cry!

The Time Traveller’s Wife.

Lost in Translation is a great film. Agree it may be more impactful if you’ve been to Japan.
About Time
You’ve got Mail

I think The English Patient is really romantic but it's just so sad too.

Melstarrynight · 23/09/2023 15:02

I also watched last letter to your lover on Netflix the other day it is was really good. Another Netflix one is 'love at first sight'. It was really lovely.

How about for something different
Eagle vs Shark?

Or for young love Before Sunrise, 30s love Before Sunset, 40s love Before Midnight? In that order one per week or so. Don't binge straight through. The rest of us had to wait 9 years between the first two.

I think my favourite is 'While you were sleeping'

But I also like, You've Got Mail and Notting Hill

Posting to recommend the achingly wistful and lovely Past Lives, which is currently playing in cinemas. Really special.

Another vote for Bridges of Madison County. I cried so hard it's stuck with me ever since.

The Notebook

A Star is Born - Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper version. Oh my god how I cried. Husband was really concerned as I couldn't stop as the credits rolled on.

One Christmas, oooh -nearly 30 years ago I reckon, a year or 2 after DDad had died (at Christmas), BBC2 filled their Christmas Eve schedule with:

A Man and a Woman
Love Story
Terms of Endearment

My sister and I were snivelling, emotional wrecks by midnight mass.

I find Up in the Air (George Clooney, Vera Farming) very romantic in a bittersweet way.

I like Captain Corelli's Mandolin. It is a great movie. I also like the French romantic film Amelie.
