Utterly crap film/TV series endings

I've had an animated chat about potentially great movies or TV series' that totally blew it because of their utterly crap endings.
Would be interested to know what fellow disillusioned people experienced. Just one of many examples is (this topic hopefully comes with obvious spoiler alerts!)
The HBO Six Feet Under series that decided at the very end (last episode) to reduce troubled couple Nate and Brenda to soulless vapid pointlessly 'redeemed' cardboard characters after an epic long battle with a crazy world that warranted a far better ending than the utter bs one given. So loved that series and left it feeling completely deflated and cheated.

How I met your mother - that was so awful!!

the ending of got was awful / lazy ending for Cersei! And suddenly right at the end danerys goes mad? It could have been so much better.

i liked peaky blinders.

sons of anarchy had a fantastic ending! And breaking bad.

how could we forget Line of duty - I can’t even find the words.

most Netflix films have terrible endings - I came by - waste of time!

Dungeons and Dragons

Bodies - they did a special episode to end it, but all it did was bring up more things about major characters and then leave them unanswered.

Offspring on Netflix.

Yeah peaky blinders last series was just painful. And the last ep felt like 5 hours long. That is not a good thing.

I think the whole last series of Six Feet Under should be forgotten to be honest. But Mad Men is the one that disappointed me most with the last episode - I mean, it was all leading up to that? Really? I may be the only person in the world who liked the ending of Lost though.

I liked Lost. I thought it was beautiful.

I loved the endings of Mad Men, Sopranos and GoT, but I accept I must be the only mug in the world to do so!

I thought the endings of the various series of the Handmaids Tale have been annoyingly improbable. As if she would have chosen to stay in Gilead!

Gilmour Girls

The 4 seasons ending? YES!! I actually thought the (rushed) s7 ending was perfect. It ended on so much hope and promise for the future. Amy Sherman-Palladino coming back and finishing it ruined it.

I watched it through three times at various ages. First time I identified most with Rory, second tome with Lorelai but the third I was frustrated with how bratty and entitled they both were. AS-P clearly hates children and sees them as a burden. Every single child that was written in was done so to derail the characters life and stop them living out their dreams. See April, the twins, GG and Rory herself for examples. She clearly has issues with her own parents as there is not one healthy parent/child dynamic across that whole show.

/end rant.

How I Met Your Mother
Younger

Game of Thrones last series was probably the biggest disappointment of my life so far. I'm still not over it.

PinkHeadphones · 17/09/2022 09:50

Quantum Leap
Angel

Eh? Mad Men is viewed as having one of the best endings of all series by critics and viewers. It was excellent.

Me too, you aren't alone

Lost’s ending really did suck.

Also: Quantum Leap. Such a letdown!

What happened in Quantum? I never did see the last one!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 17/09/2022 11:12

I liked the ending of Lost! Though the whole everything that happened actually happened such as time travel and whatever else made it more bizzare..considering how it started to where if ended. Still nice though

Charmed. The last season became a mess and less about the sisters and more about the other two. Didnt hate the ending but it wasn't needed.

Also one Tree Hill. Again didn't hate the last episode but last season felt a waste

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 17/09/2022 11:23

I was disappointed in the ending of Mad Men too but one of the best I've seen recently was Better Call Saul. I bloody loved that series!

Sussex34 · 17/09/2022 11:29

Game of Thrones worst ending ever - actually felt annoyed I’d invested so much time in it

How I Met Your Mother was quite rushed and a bit lazy but I still loved it

Twilight series - so pointless

And of course Line of Duty - so so shit

It’s actually interesting that so many massive cult series have such bad endings - it’s almost like the writers lose sight of everything and keep going with a great series but don’t know how to wrap it up.

maslinpan · 17/09/2022 11:51

Better Call Saul. They should have ended with the episode with Kim walking away. The last 3/4 episodes added nothing at all.
