Utterly crap film/TV series endings

I've had an animated chat about potentially great movies or TV series' that totally blew it because of their utterly crap endings.
Would be interested to know what fellow disillusioned people experienced. Just one of many examples is (this topic hopefully comes with obvious spoiler alerts!)
The HBO Six Feet Under series that decided at the very end (last episode) to reduce troubled couple Nate and Brenda to soulless vapid pointlessly 'redeemed' cardboard characters after an epic long battle with a crazy world that warranted a far better ending than the utter bs one given. So loved that series and left it feeling completely deflated and cheated.

Lost

Mrsdeeds · 17/09/2022 05:37

Game of Thrones.

Muddays · 17/09/2022 05:41

Re: MooseBeTimeForSnow; I've heard about this! Never watched the whole series. Why was it a crap ending?

Yes, Mrsdeeds, Game of Thrones will definitely go down in film studies history as an example of how not to patronise an audience with a lazy pseudo profound moral ending...

House - they did the best they could without the Lisa Cuddy character - but it was so disappointing with her missing.

To be honest, I lost interest well before the finale. But even when I read an explanation, I didn’t understand it. But it was widely regarded as shite.

BiggerthanIusedtobe · 17/09/2022 05:51

I think the whole last series of Six Feet Under should be forgotten to be honest. But Mad Men is the one that disappointed me most with the last episode - I mean, it was all leading up to that? Really? I may be the only person in the world who liked the ending of Lost though.

Bearsan · 17/09/2022 05:57

Dexter - ridiculous. The last season was so rushed and thoughtless
Agree Game of thrones.
Peaky blinders was a bit rubbish.
Vikings and Walking dead both had me quitting way before the end as all the brilliant characters went far too tame. I never found out if they ever refound their mojo's as I lost interest.

Breaking bad ended marvellously and was fantastic throughout.

Battlestar Galactica. Really rushed and stupid ending. As PP - Game of Thrones - should have been at least another series; Dexter.

xigris · 17/09/2022 06:41

Killing Eve

Lost

Kerrrmieee · 17/09/2022 06:43

Dexter

silentpool · 17/09/2022 06:45

Gilmour Girls

isthismylifenow · 17/09/2022 06:46

I know I'm very behind but I only recently watched fifty shades of Grey. Both the first and the second had endings that made no sense at all.

Look I wouldn't class them as decent movies as they were pretty dire, but wtf at the endings 😂

Are you referring to Dexter New Blood or the first series?

isthismylifenow · 17/09/2022 06:48

Oh and the other one is Outlander.

I got so bored, not even Jamie in a kilt could salvage it.

maddiemookins16mum · 17/09/2022 07:12

LaLa Land. Such a disappointing ending, pointless. I invested in them and they fecked off with other people.

Littlebelina · 17/09/2022 07:23

How I met your mother. Game of thrones. The former is so infuriating that I can't rewatch series. Latter is close to that level.

anotherpotoftea · 17/09/2022 07:31

Lost’s ending really did suck.

Also: Quantum Leap. Such a letdown!

bluelabradorite · 17/09/2022 07:41

Game of thrones.

I actually loved the ending of Lost, once I understood it. I recently rewatched the whole thing and it was even better second time around because it all made much more sense. It was a beautiful ending. And for those still in doubt, they had been alive on the island, and everything that happened in the first five series actually happened. There’s a good video which sums up what happened in order. The closing shot caused some people to believe they had all died in the crash but that was the tv channel’s choice of shot, and one that the producers said caused a lot of confusion around the ending.

nancydroo · 17/09/2022 07:45

Sopranos!

Did Tony die or did he not? Were his family murdered too or not!? What happened!?

PuppyMonkey · 17/09/2022 07:49

I think no matter how they’d ended GoT, everyone would have said it was crap. They couldn’t win.

Yes i understood the ending of Lost, but from what I remember, people were annoyed that the ending only explained the last season. We got no answers about anything else that had happened before. I do want to rewatch it now though and rekindle my lust for Sawyer.Grin

It’s definitely worth a rewatch for Sawyer alone! First time around I also thought there were lots of unanswered questions, but second time around I found answers to pretty much all of them I think. I think being able to binge watch rather than waiting between episodes might have helped.

TomAllenWife · 17/09/2022 07:59

Sopranos, never been so disappointed

mac1974 · 17/09/2022 08:05

I agree about Sopranos. It's like they didn't know how to end it.
I enjoyed How I met your mother but did skip a couple of episodes in the last series as it seemed to drag. The ending also made me a bit sad.

Suchalicklepumpkin · 17/09/2022 08:06

How I Met Your Mother.
