Was it any good?

I want to watch it with my 10 kids. But don't know if it is worth the watch. Please help. Thx

Favourite parts of the film - I really enjoyed the history of film and the fact that Mary saved them by doing a voiceover. Also - the Dowager is the best part of anything!

I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys period drama.

My sister said of the film - in spite of not knowing Downton well "that was really entertaining". I know Downton far too well, lol, but didn't rate the first film much.

It's so comforting to see the opening titles of Downton too!

I was so excited to watch this film, loved Downton Abbey and was in the mood for a feel good story - after the disappointment of the first film where the best bit was the music this was so much better.
I loved the scenery and dresses as always and this time the plot was pretty good too - some bits were a reach as in Lady Mary being the only one to think of an idea to save the day, but all forgiven as it was entertaining and amusing and made me feel better for watching it. I think watching it in the Winter with it being cold outside would have been even better!
My husband who is not a fan and demanded to be brought up to speed on all characters and previous plot also enjoyed it and managed to grasps what was going on and who was who pretty quickly!
Would recommend to Downton fans and their none interested familes!

I enjoyed the film very much, despite an initial feeling that the plot seemed a little too far fetched. The costumes were amazing as always, and the scenery stunning.
One tiny detail bothered me, as Daisy had said in a previous series, when the family went to London, that she 'never got excited.' However, she was clearly very excited at the prospect of meeting a famous film star in 'A New Era.'
I was pleased to see many familiar faces, in particular Mary and Edith who appeared to be on far more cordial terms than in previous series. The film is a credit to Julian Fellows and definitely worth watching.

I really enjoyed it. It felt like an extended episode rather than a film which was perfect for settling down and switching off from everything else for a while.

My favourite but was Mr Moseley's happy ending. I won't spoil it but he's been such a good character I'm glad it ended how did for him.

Would I recommend it? For downton fans absolutely. Like I said above it has the feel of an extra long episode and its back to what we all enjoyed about first time round

Other members of my family? Those that like downton anyway enjoyed it.

I just love the feel good pets of the film, takes me back to Sunday evenings, I remember watching it in hospital after my son was born.
Who would you recommend the film? Yes, it’s a total return to form for the franchise.

What were your favourite parts of the film?
I love the setting and the feeling it gave me (lots of happy memories of watching Downton). The ending was uplifting and left me feeling happy.

Who would you recommend the film?
I would recommend it to someone who wants to watch a feel good and not too intense movie. It’s a great Sunday afternoon watch!

What did other members of your family think of the film?
my husband enjoyed it and he was surprised he did. My 7 year old loved the costumes and the architecture.

• What were your favourite parts of the film?
I loved all of it! How it touched on lots of different elements of life back then - the changing world of the film industry, how it was so difficult to be gay, etc. I love the characters, especially the Dowager Duchess who will always be my favourite. I loved the idea that she had a secret past.

• Who would you recommend the film?
Anyone who likes a bit of historical/period drama, or films that make you smile Smile

• What did other members of your family think of the film?
They are not great Downton fans but agreed it was a feel good film.

Where can I watch it? Which platform?

SylvanianFrenemies · 27/08/2022 23:49

It was ok.
Some parts felt a bit rushed, and underdeveloped.
The blatant rip off of one of the main storylines from a well known classic film was bizarre.

It was better than the first one! I'd recommend it to fans to see some storylines completed. There were moments of emotion and some good acting.

I watched it alone, no other Downton fans in our house.

I finally watched this tne other weekend.

I love Downton, and thought this was well done as usual. The Dowager was brilliant as always, the storyline a little far fetched in places.

I love that Thomas smiled a lot in this and got his happy ending, and Carson as usual made me laugh with his gruffness.

Overall a great film to add to the Downton family, and enjoyed by my friend who hasn't seen any of the previous series either.
