I’ll go first. 1917. I came out of the cinema shell shocked and so much pent up emotion I had to let out. My husband tried to talk to me to ask how I enjoyed it and I told him I couldn’t talk for fear of bursting into tears in the cinema lobby.

Leaving Las Vegas - modern bleak set against the dazzling lights of Vegas . I thought I’d love it and had actually bought the DVD because it has two of my favourite actors. I binned it because I didn’t want to ruin someone else’s life by taking it to the charity shop.

Utterly horrible as the film is, and it is, I think the bleak horror of both addiction and prostitution is very well done. I wouldn't watch it again though.

It was semi-autobiographical and sadly the author did end his own life.

I've been meaning to watch this!

It’s the most relentlessly miserable film I’ve ever seen!

The Road -though the book is even bleaker

Nil By Mouth. I thought it was going to be funny because Kathy Burke is in it. Nope.

Jaws - still scared of the sea.

I watched the Viceroy's House recently. I know (some of) the history but it's still shocking to see it portrayed through people's lives

Freedom Writers released in 2007

A movie to get encouraged!

Breaking the Waves. I sobbed from about 30 mins in.

The Elephant Man - both Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt were amazing. Can’t believe it hasn’t been mentioned before.

Shawshank Redemption - made me realise just how hard and unfair life can be sometimes.

and the Sound of Music - just because of the amazing joy it brings me to watch it!

@EhatBow Just watched The Viceroy's House. Excellent, but devastating.
