Seen it last night. It's amazing! No spoilers but if you're a big die hard fan of the first one I'm sure you'll love it. I can't wait to go see it again 😍

That's interesting, @Imsittinginthekitchensink , I found that the dialogue was a lot clearer in this than in most films!

Antarcticant · 31/05/2022 07:50

I thought the first one was OK but not marvellous - would you say the sequel is better?

Imsittinginthekitchensink · 31/05/2022 00:49

Oh though will say I struggled with the sound - dialogue was drowned out by music or noise in places and I found it v difficult to hear what was being said.

That must be the cinema you were at. We had one where I used to live like that.

Definitely

Really enjoyed it. Was dragged by family (DH has met TC through work half a dozen times) and it was great family entertainment. Worth seeing in the big screen.

toastofthetown · 01/06/2022 10:21

I went to see it without having seen the original and I still thought it was great. I’m sure there were Easter eggs and throwbacks which I didn’t catch, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything.

I also didn’t struggle with hearing the dialogue (and I’m someone who watches everything with subtitles at home).

Saw it today, loved it. Similar feel to the original. Loved the fact the female interest was of suitable age! Just great 👍

I loved the fact that she was age appropriate too and that she was clothed in the lying on the bed scene. It’s unusual nowadays.

I thought the film as quite good. Probably over hyped but enjoyable.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 01/06/2022 14:53

I loved that the "new" love interest was a throw back to the original when she is mentioned while Mav is getting a bollocking for doing a fly by past several control towers and one admiral's daughter (Goose whispers "Penny Benjamin?" and Mav nods.) I like the idea that the two of them have known each other for decades and have been on/off - it seems realistic for two people in / so closely connected to the military.

Annamariefl · 01/06/2022 15:00

We rewatched the original last week and went to see Maverick last night, I think the refresher helped with connecting the references. It was a great film to see on the big screen, we both really enjoyed it and felt the action and story kept pace throughout. it felt like there was not only continuity but also a bond with the actors - well worth the wait.

PetersRabbitt · 01/06/2022 15:02

Not a top gun fan but saw number 2 last night. Brilliant film! Even as just a stand alone film I thought it was great.

Springduckling · 01/06/2022 23:40

Saw it this evening on a big screen and thought it was fab, v well done. Mainly wanted to see it because John Hamm was in it, and he was great.

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 05/06/2022 00:13

I could have lived without the love angle, I didn’t think it was necessary and I’m not a fan of Jennifer Connolly but the film was fantastic! Great casting of the younger pilots and thought Tom Cruise was outstanding.

I would say you need to watch the first one as it holds a lot of the historic / iconic events.

I took my 8 year old as I had imax premier tickets too!!!

Can't wait to see it again, was truly magical to be transported back to the iconic movies of the 80's. 36 years later and done so well.

Ditto! IMAX and it was like a journey back in time to 1986! We didn’t realise how good things were until it was too late…

had to wear this…

Clearly we didn't watch the same film if you thought it was shit.

Off for a second time tomorrow Blush

Just got back and was treating DH to aren't on how alienated I feel about these blokey films. One token female flyer, a love interest and her daughter. That's the female representation in this. They even killed off goose's wife.

I found the flying sequences at the end gripping. Hated the bromance element. Didn't recognise any of the younger cast. Not totally awful that 'the love interest' is similar age and a lot more independent but we've not moved far from 1986 which is disappointing.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 05/06/2022 11:26

I thought one female flyer was fair. How many of the top fighter pilots are female in real life?

JennyAct3 · 05/06/2022 11:58

Stats are between 5% and 7%.

CuriousMama · 05/06/2022 12:42

Taking MIL who's late 80s to see it this week. Should be interesting 😂
My mam would have loved it had she been alive. She'd be 92 now though.

WingingItSince1973 · 05/06/2022 13:15

Saw this last night and was not disappointed. As a teen in the 80s who loved this the first time around I did wonder how they would do it to the same standard but it was great. Also I never watched the first one on the big screen! Amazing. Now looking forward to jurassic world dominion next week!!

Oh yes me too. Jennifer Connelly is 51 (married to Paul Bettany friends with JD 🤣)

LondonPainter · 05/06/2022 13:23

@Imsittinginthekitchensink the sound was bad in my cinema (Wimbledon) too. Not all the time, but there were scenes where I struggled to hear the dialogue.
I hadn't realised until it started that Jon Hamm is in it, so that was a pleasant surprise 😍

CuriousMama · 07/07/2022 00:46

Just saw it for the 4th time. This time 4DX. Totally unnecessary but thought we'd try. I saw Dr strange 4DX and wasn't keen but heard it was great for Top Gun. Anyway think I've seen it enough. Going to see Thor next.
Really think top gun Maverick needs to be seen on the big screen.

Ohthatsexciting · 21/07/2022 14:15

What age would you say suitable from? 9 year old tough cookie ok?

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind1 · 21/07/2022 14:40

I'd say fine, yes.
