Somehow, ended up watching this on tv today. There’s a lot of sexual innuendoes in it, and I felt as ‘a modern woman’ I shouldn’t be enjoying it.

However, actually quite liked the film Blush.

I love carry on, it got a lot less funny as time went on though and quite desperate. OH is watching now, Carry on Behind, barely funny which is a shame.

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 16/04/2022 19:31

They were wonderful, light-hearted and a repository of a lot of old music hall material.

I love Up the Khyber, Camping, Screaming, Don't Lose Your Head, Follow that Camel and Cleo.

Carry on up the Khyber is my absolute favourite of all time. The dining room scene is fabulous

I so agree, it’s the British at their stiff upper lipped best. Hilarious 😆. My favourite line is when Sid James leans confidingly forward and says “it’s not a first class orchestra” to explain the terrible noise. Also love the works outing in carry on at your convenience.

Im a little plastered.

Unforgettablefire · 16/04/2022 20:08

Carry on camping one of the best Grin did you know they were all freezing making that film, you can see the breath coming from their mouths in parts.

Yes it was November when it was filmed and they had to spray paint the 'grass' (mud) green to make it look more Summery. Carry Ons have been a huge part of my life since I was about 8/9. In fact my first crush was Sid JamesShock
ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 16/04/2022 20:12

Apparently Joan ab-libbed her line about being a little plastered.Grin

Camping is joy from start to finish. Betty Marsden's laugh. Grin I had that as a ringtone at one point.

bellac11 · 16/04/2022 20:14

Thats a good story, I hope its true.

Monkeytennis97 · 16/04/2022 20:14

Loved Betty Marsden. "Oh Peter!!!"Grin

My absolute favourite.

Followed closely by 'at Your Convenience'.

I think it was the anniversary of Kenny Williams' death yesterday sadly-34 years. Loved Michael Sheen's portrayal of him.

Monkeytennis97 · 16/04/2022 20:19

I loved Henry and Cleo for the costumes which were taken from other much more serious films being made at Pinewood. Didn't Sid James and Amanda Barrie wear Liz Taylor and Richard Burton's outfits? I'm sure I read that somewhere.

StellaOlivetti · 16/04/2022 20:21

@Monkeytennis97 that is true, I believe

VampireMoney · 16/04/2022 20:21

Oh I do love a Carry On film. I once bumped into Fenella Fielding (from Carry One Screaming) in Sunwin House and had a proper fan girl moment 😂

JohannSebastianBach · 16/04/2022 20:22

Yes in Carry on Cleo.

I love Carry on films, all the ones listed already.
Also special mention for Carry on Constable.
(Constable Constable, Ding Dong etc)

Monkeytennis97 · 16/04/2022 20:23

@VampireMoney I would have done too! For me it's Valerie Leon-I loved her in all her Carry On appearances.

isthatanotherbastardgrey · 16/04/2022 21:11

Bloody love the Carry Ons! DD is prepped to make her appearance into the world tomorrow and they are all on my post-section recovery watch list! (With very gentle giggling only).

It's actually lucky she's a girl - at one point before we knew the sex, the names Sidney and James were genuinely mentioned as a first name/middle name combo for a boy! Grin

Riverlee · 16/04/2022 22:40

I honestly thought I’d be flamed for saying I enjoyed the film, with people saying how sexist they seem through modern eyes etc! I’m glad there’s an army of fans out there and like previous posters, they were part of my childhood years (together with the Doctor in the House films). I think some of the appeal is actually the script writing, which is very clever in parts, and funny.

Oh the joy of the Comte de la Plume de ma Tante and Citizen Camembert.
