Favourite Disney Princess?

Inspired by a question from a young friend - who is your favourite? Mine is Cinderella - I'm 59 and I'm wondering if replies might be age dependant 🤔

I do like Mulan as well. I just didn't immediately think of her as a Princess.

ODFOx · 16/03/2022 23:15

Merida. So fierce and independent but makes a terrible mistake and fights her way back to save those she lives and still find her own path.
Years ago, when I was a Brownie Leader, we did a Brave themed Brownie holiday. We hired a climbing tower, did archery and wood crafts, followed whisps through the woods at dusk, horse riding (racing) on hobby horses the girls made. We ate Scottish food and did Scottish country dancing, then on the last day we did a Highland games. It was the best Brownie holiday theme we'd ever done: and certainly the only Disney 'princess' I'd use as a model for 7-10 year old girls.

As a child - Ariel. I wanted her hair and being a mermaid was amazing.

As a teen - Megara. She was the type of cool girl I wanted to be.

As an adult - Tiana. She works hard for what she wants and doesn't expect a man to save her. Also she lives in New Orleans and I would love to visit there! And beignets taste amazing!!

Mulan. I’m 32, so similar in age to others who have said Mulan.

Closely followed by Merida and Moana. Which also seems like a popular choice in my age bracket!

You didn’t ask for this but Ariel is my least favourite. I actually really dislike her.

EssexLioness · 16/03/2022 23:36

As a child/ early adulthood: Cinderella
Now: Tiana
I’m 44

I’m going to go with vanellope von Schweetz since it doesn’t look like anyone else has.

Failing that Moana.

ShoutyAnge · 17/03/2022 00:01

My favourites as a kid were Esmeralda from the hunchback of Notredame and Meg from Hercules.
As an adult I Iove Moana, Raya, Merida and I love Luisa and Mirabel Madrigel now too. I like that the female characters are becoming stronger and more complex. I like them strong minded, kickass, on a quest and not needing a man.

Cinderella. For having a fairly Godmother. For her lovely ball gown and beautiful wedding dress. For marrying her handsome prince. For the look on her evil Stepmother/Stepsisters face. And most of all for the cool way she did it. She is Pretty Woman with bells on.

janeseymour78 · 17/03/2022 00:24

Pocahontas and Meirda from Brave...might not be Disney but anyway!

Rockhopper81 · 17/03/2022 00:25

Raya I think has been made the thirteenth official Disney princess now? It's just been delayed because of Covid. The reason Elsa and Anna aren't officially Disney princesses is because Frozen has its own 'line' or products (and Disney were concerned it would overshadow the princess line because of its success - yes, the official princesses are that purely because of merchandising!).

Anyway...I would say Moana/Raya first place for me, with Merida a close second. I like Mulan and Tiana too. Basically, those where the princess isn't depicted as a wait who needs rescuing. I guess Rapunzel might fit there too. I discount Pochahontas because of the real life aspect and how it was butchered. Like another poster, I actively dislike Ariel and inwardly groan every time my niece chooses it!

I'm 40, so prime age for the beginning of the Disney renaissance (89-99). I'm now watching them regularly with my nieces. Favourites on rotation include Frozen (1&2), Moana, Raya and Encanto - I'm fine with all of those to be fair!

Merida is the only Pixar studio Disney princess - she definitely is on the 'official' list! 🙃

I don't really recall Disney princesses from my childhood. Beauty and the Beast came out when I was late teens and I did like Belle. As an adult with DDs I now have extensive knowledge. Merida is my absolute favourite, feisty and independent.

Bollix · 17/03/2022 11:24

@notangelinajolie

Exactly 🙂

Merida and Tiana.

VenezuelaChant · 19/03/2022 18:29

Marie 😼

She would totally identify as a princess.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 19/03/2022 22:02

As a kid Ariel (loved the red hair) and Belle (I was/am a bookworm).
Now I really like Merida....fellow tomboy ginger!

lauramarano · 05/04/2022 02:22

The Little Mermaid

Robinni · 19/04/2022 08:59

Ariel… all the way!

Whhhy has everyone gone off her in adulthood??

Surprised not too many takers for Mulan and Tiana. And the Merida love is huge!!

I hope Mirabel becomes an honorary princess she’s very relatable.
