With the cold weather VERY much here, I am ready to start Sunday Christmas film sessions again. Got me thinking, what is everyone's favourite Christmas film? For me, got to be The Holiday!

@Classica

I can't stand Home Alone. I think I was 14 or so when it came out so it was never part of my childhood xmas. I think you need to have watched it as a kid to love it.
Yes, this is a film from my childhood)
PlausibleSuit · 13/11/2021 09:54

Die Hard.

And Clue. (The 80s comedy with Madeline Kahn, Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd and Eileen Brennan.) It’s not a Christmas film in itself but me and a friend used to watch it every Christmas so it has become one in my head.

PlausibleSuit · 13/11/2021 09:55

By the way, if you’ve got Netflix there’s a series on how some classic movies were made. Among others they look at Home Alone, Die Hard, Elf and A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Would help if I told you what it was called…

There was a little animated Rudolph the red nosed reindeer that was shown when I was little. I love Miracle on 34th Street and Love Actually. I don’t really do silly films but National Lampoons Christmas Vacation really makes me laugh ( auto correct changed that to vaccination which would have been funnyGrin

Doomscrolling · 13/11/2021 10:07

Klaus
While You Were Sleeping
Arthur Christmas
How The Grinch Stole Christmas (30 minute animated version)
Miracle on 34th Street (both versions)
It’s A Wonderful Life
White Christmas
Holiday Inn
Muppet Christmas Carol
Scrooged
The Christmas Chronicles
The Homecoming (the TV movie that lead to The Waltons becoming a series)

Doomscrolling · 13/11/2021 10:09

I hate to tell you but that Rudolf thing aged BADLY! I bought it in a fit of nostalgia and it was unwatchable.

@TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder

Die Hard (yes, it is a Christmas film - no arguments please Grin) Love Actually (I know, I know but I can’t help liking it)

Santa Claus the movie. Quite an old one but David Huddleston is the nicest Santa I have ever seen. I adore it. Dudley Moore & John Lithgow also in it.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 13/11/2021 12:46

I love While You Were Sleeping, and I'm not generally a massive romcom fan. But the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman is everything, plus the supporting cast are fab.

VienneseWhirligig · 13/11/2021 12:48

Love Actually (yes I know)
Bernard and the Genie
Jack Frost
Home Alone 1 and 2
Arthur Christmas

VienneseWhirligig · 13/11/2021 12:49

Oh and how could I forget Nativity!? My niece is in it Blush

Sooverthemill · 13/11/2021 14:27

@VienneseWhirligig Jack Frost makes us cry! So sad

ihavespoken · 13/11/2021 14:30

Muppets Christmas Carol
And Christmas Chronicles 2 is amazing

StucklnAMuumuuCantGetOutOflt · 13/11/2021 14:36

Family Stone. It's the scene where SJP just lies in bed with Luke in his tee-shirt and can just be herself as being so tightly wound-up is bloody exhausting.

Scotabroad24 · 13/11/2021 18:49

Miracle on 34th street. Absolutely love it and watch it every christmas Grin

torquewench · 13/11/2021 19:24

@Jobhunterhelp

National Lampoons Christmas vacation
I was going to say this.

And also, any day now my next door nobheads will be decking out their house as a tribute to this film.

Muppets Christmas Carol and Nativity
