With the cold weather VERY much here, I am ready to start Sunday Christmas film sessions again. Got me thinking, what is everyone's favourite Christmas film? For me, got to be The Holiday!

OP posts:
Ottercave · 11/11/2021 14:32

Got to be Die Hard.

Classica · 11/11/2021 14:34

All the Christmas Carol adaptations. Especially the Alistair Sim version.

I'm not a fan of The Holiday, only part I enjoyed was the sweet friendship between Kate Winslet and her neighbour.

Madickenxx · 11/11/2021 14:40

Not sure it's my absolute favourite but as it hasn't been mentioned: Christmas with the Coopers! :-)

ThatDreamSheep · 11/11/2021 14:47

Nativity!

Losingthechubrub · 11/11/2021 14:49

Die Hard
Gremlins
Bad Santa
(I'm not really a festive person)

poorbuthappy · 11/11/2021 14:49

Has anyone watched Father Christmas is Back on Netflix?

Would love to hear some views....Wink

ISpyCobraKai · 11/11/2021 14:49

Gremlins.

Youngatheart00 · 11/11/2021 15:55

Yes I’ve seen Last Christmas and whilst it was exceptionally cheesy I did like it!

MovinOnUp · 11/11/2021 16:04

I've never met a Christmas movie I didn't like.
All time favourite has to be the Muppets Christmas Carol.
We took the DC to see it at the cinema last year and it was such a treat to see it on the big screen.

The song 'Bless us one and all' had me in tears, It doesn't usually when watching it at home on t.v

wolfstarling · 11/11/2021 16:10

Elf!!
The Snowman and the Snowdog
The Christmas Globe( or something similar smushy TV movie but I love it!)

MrsWooster · 11/11/2021 16:18

Muppets Christmas Carol,
Also Nativity.

TheLeadbetterLife · 11/11/2021 16:23

I'm amazed at the love for The Holiday on here - it's hilariously bad, though I enjoy it for the fantasy homes and lives aspect, as well as having a laugh at the terrible writing.

At least pp are suitably embarrassed about Love Actually.

For me:

Home Alone
Die Hard
Trading Places
Muppet Christmas Carol (the version with Belle's song in it)
About A Boy
When Harry Met Sally (for NYE)
White Christmas

wild card: Iron Man 3. It's set at Christmas, therefore it counts, and I rather like it, despite all the shit it gets from comic book fanboys.

I also love to watch a good, old-fashioned epic musical during the Christmas holiday:

Singin In The Rain
The Sound of Music
Oklahoma
etc.

LoveFall · 11/11/2021 16:25

Love Actually (sorry, can't help it)

Dinlays · 11/11/2021 16:50

I always watch "Home Alone". This is our family tradition.

Classica · 11/11/2021 16:55

I can't stand Home Alone. I think I was 14 or so when it came out so it was never part of my childhood xmas. I think you need to have watched it as a kid to love it.

Miller2021 · 11/11/2021 16:56

Aside from those already mentioned (especially Muppet Christmas Carol and Die Hard), Krampus is really good - a sort of family Christmas horror thing from a few years ago. Not for very small kids as it's a bit scary, but we love it - highly recommended.

Scrooged is also in our Christmas rotation, and It's a Wonderful Life.

Hetyanni · 11/11/2021 16:58

Not my favourite but I recommend The Night Before Christmas, really enjoy it.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 11/11/2021 17:01

White Christmas
Nativity
While You Were Sleeping
Mrs Miracle

I also quite enjoy a couple of the rubbishy hallmark ones every year. Blush

RhondaZ · 11/11/2021 17:01

I love Love Actually and I don't care who knows it.

Classica · 11/11/2021 17:01

Oh another one I like is The Family Man starring Nicolas Cage as an investment banker who experiences what life would have been like if he'd married his college girlfriend and moved to the suburbs.

It's a Wonderful Life in reverse basically.
