Now it's snuggle up on the sofa with a movie season (officially, though we're always doing this year round), I need some ideas for what movies you're actually happy to watch with the kids - share yours please (if any!!)

I'll start....

Megamind and Inside Out for the clever quotables.

I'll watch any Disney movie with them from my childhood (I DONT mean the remakes though).

And of course, I'm up for a Harry Potter marathon even when they get distracted and lose interest.

OP posts:

Love 101 Dalmatians (have a real one as well) ! Mrs doubtfire, matilda, hp of course

UniformSchmooniform · 30/10/2021 09:35

The Truman show works well with pre teens and older kids.

PooWillyNameChange · 30/10/2021 10:34

Monsters Inc and Monsters University
A Knights Tale, Stardust
Anything Marvel (for slightly older kids)

Minesril · 30/10/2021 10:47

Working our way through Star Wars Rebels at the moment. I'd like to show him Rogue One and the Mandallorian as both are referenced, but I think at 7 he's a bit too young for those.

Frazzled2207 · 30/10/2021 10:52

Mine at 6 and 8 seem to have skipped the children’s films section entirely though did like how to train your dragon and the despicable me films.
The preferred films in this house are marvel and Star Wars 🥴.

Pleased to say that Back to the Future went down very well with the older son last week.

Sarah180818 · 30/10/2021 11:22

Now it's the run up to Christmas we'll be watching the home alone movies!

loubielou31 · 30/10/2021 17:59

All the above, a Knight's tale is my favourite. Clueless was a surprising hit. Legally blonde, Three men and a baby,

Cutemob · 31/10/2021 08:52

I absolutely love Moana. Up and Inside Out are a bit teary but great. My Neighbour Totoro, Ponyo and Spirited Away firm faves and there are loads of other lovely Studio Ghibley.

Restzol · 31/10/2021 21:13

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - surprisingly funny despite dire reviews. Kiddo (from age 6-8) also loves the Garfield movies - me less so!

Restzol · 31/10/2021 21:14

@Cutemob my boy had a real thing for Ponyo too! Watched it over and over…

Monsters Vs Aliens is an absolute classic! We still quote it a lot in our house, especially when going down the stairs “I am a brave president ✌🏼“

Mrs Doubtfire too but depending on how young the child is try and record it off the telly as there’s a bit more language in it than I remembered from my youth. Spent ages trying to stop DS from reciting “p p p p piss off Lou” Blush.

The Grinch with Jim Carey was DS’s favourite Christmas film. So much so that we were still watching it well into August. If you gave us some green faux fur and 20 minutes to rehearse I’m sure me and DP could do you a pretty accurate rendition.

3scape · 31/10/2021 22:46

Princess Bride; Stardust; Wallace & Grommit; Aadams Family;

mowly77 · 31/10/2021 23:01

All the Studio Ghibli films, but DD aged 3 especially loves Ponyo; Totoro; Spirited Away & Howl’s Moving Castle. Surprisingly not scared by latter two. There’s some other great non-Ghibli Japanese animated films for children: Mary & the Witches’ Flower is good. It’s on Amazon.

I didn’t mind Tangled or Frozen the first few times but I can’t sit through them now for the gazillionth time. Some great suggestions on here! Will be trying some out.

iklboogiemaninthecloset · 31/10/2021 23:23

Every Christmas Eve we watch Arthur Christmas. DS is 16 next week.

TopCatsTopHat · 31/10/2021 23:30

Malificent (both)
Asterix
Charlie brown/snoopy

longwayoff · 01/11/2021 06:37

Klaus is a charming film reminiscent of Arthur Christmas. Recommend.
