I'm just back from seeing Black Widow Grin I can't objectively review it, I love Scarlet Johanssen so much, I've waited so long to see it and I generally love the cinema so much that I'm just completely thrilled to have seen it and am at peace with life Grin

Great action, some surprisingly sweet and tender moments. Think Florence Pugh is a complete scene stealer, she was fantastic, possibly even better than my beloved Scarlet Grin and there is an end credit scene.

Happy to discuss in more detail when its properly out!

I think there are going to be problems with the Hawkeye show if half the audience are rooting for Yelena to kill him and disappointed when she’s inevitably persuaded not to.

RunningFromInsanity · 30/07/2021 19:30

What was the after credit scene?
I sadly didn’t enjoy that much, so left and didn’t see it.

RunningFromInsanity · 30/07/2021 19:35

Actually, just googled it. Interesting. I felt like there was a lack of Avengers characters in Black Widow so looks like Hawkeye will be more of a crossover.

I also agree with comments that Pugh overshadowed Scarlett.

MisterT373 · 31/07/2021 01:09

I did wonder whether she lost her Soviet Family in the snap which was one of the reasons she sacrificed herself?

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/07/2021 01:48

Hello you lot.

Watched yesterday.

The young Natasha looked really familiar, and after googling I see that she is Milla Jovovixh's daughter. That's who she reminded me of. Milla Jovivich in The Fifth Element

I said to DP she looked just like Milla in 5th Element, especially with the coloured hair! No bloody wonder if she's her DD.

Florence was brilliant. Ray was Ray.

They appear to be lining up Yelena to be the new Black Widow. She'll be all fighty with Clint then join the young(er) avengers.

Knocked me sick when she smashed her own head on the table!

There are comic bods not liking what they did with the taskmaster character because it's meant to be a villain who fights avengers/spiderman etc a lot and now she's not so mean.

What is Julia Dreyfus up to? Is her character in the comics? Is she trying to make an anti-avengers?

PrincessScarlett · 31/07/2021 07:27

Watched it yesterday. Loved it! And agree that Florence Pugh was absolutely brilliant, definitely stole a lot of the scenes and you could tell the film is setting her up for another marvel appearance.

Ray Winstone was the only bad thing about the film. Why on earth he was cast over all of the other actors they could have picked is beyond me. He didn't cut it as the nasty evil villain at all and is certainly not worthy of being a marvel villain.

I found it quite emotional too knowing Natasha is dead. Loved the banter between her, Elena and Alexei. End credit definitely setting up for more Black Widow action.

PrincessScarlett · 31/07/2021 07:41

@BuckyBarnesArm I'm guessing that Natasha sacrificed herself for Clint because he had a real family whereas her family was a pretence and was only for 3 years. You could tell in the opening scenes that young Natasha was very aware her family were not normal and Alexei referred to Natasha knowing about what happens in the Red Room so implied she had already started her training before being placed with Alexei and Melina. Her real mother was killed by Draykov.

Don't like that Clint has been blamed for Natasha's death as he was her best friend and tried to sacrifice himself to amend for all the death he caused following the snap but Natasha got in their first.

BuckyBarnesArm · 31/07/2021 08:46

I'm not anti-Cliff, I'm anti the way Marvel made the "childless" woman sacrifice herself. It's just sexist imo. Nat may not have had a "traditional" family but she had a younger sister of sorts who would have benefitted from her still being around. But I suppose it didn't fit into how Marvel want to develop things, so over the cliff Nat went.

PrincessScarlett · 31/07/2021 09:09

Totally agree @BuckyBarnesArm! Natasha was a favourite avenger in my house and when she died we were all absolutely gutted. And she didn't even get a funeral like Tony Stark... but don't get me started on that 🤣. The fact there is now a Hawkeye TV series coming out shows there was always more in the pipeline for Clint. Can only hope now that Florence Pugh becomes the new Black Widow and does the original BW proud.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/07/2021 11:13

I think Hawkeye series is going to be more about him mentoring the new young, female, hawkeye replacement for the Young Avengers. Pugh will have to decide which side she wants to be on.

I doubt he will be around after that. They have been getting rid of the originals one by one.

She Hulk and Miss America next?

Also interesting that Iron lad in the comics was actually a teenager who eventually becomes Kang, so perhaps Loki is setting up for that variant to enter the Young Avengers too.

PrincessScarlett · 31/07/2021 11:23

The new avengers had better live up to the originals. They have big boots to fill.

I’m excited for She Hulk as Tatiana Maslany is playing her - she was amazing in Orphan Black so very excited for her to join MCU!

Whatsnewpussyhat · 31/07/2021 14:02

Just had a look at the cast list, loved Orphan Black. Wonder if Banner will just be the mentor.
Jamila Jamil seems really odd casting though.
Tim Roth will be great.

LemonViolet · 31/07/2021 15:47

Agree, she was bearable in The Good Place because she really suited that character, but it’s difficult to imagine her as anything other than virtue-signalling Twitter idiot these days.

Abomination (Tim Roth) is going to be in Shang-Chi. Wonder how he has escaped the Raft?!? He’s been there since the Ed Norton Hulk movie! Although clearly it’s very possible seeing as the Avengers did it en masse. I excpect he’ll be quite pissed off.

Soubriquet · 14/09/2021 13:50

Finally got to see this film. I’ve been looking forward to it and I really enjoyed it

I loved Florence as Yelena. She was a very likeable character

Nice to see Natasha’s grave as we didn’t get to see that at the end of the avengers infinity war
