Just watched this and thought it was a really good film. It gets a lot darker than expected though the film does change tone throughout, difficult to describe as one single genre, and didn’t go the way I thought it would.

Thought Carey Mulligan was great in it, hope it gets a wider release especially after the Oscar nominations, so more people get to see it. Interested to hear what others think!

@superoz

Also Ryan was portrayed as a good guy at the start. But when they go on the first date they end up “by coincidence” outside his apartment. I thought that was a bit of a sleazy move, but did Carrie think so? She got angry after and kicked the bin, was that because she misread Ryan or wanted to go in to his apartment? However she went to see him at work the next day which makes me think it was the latter.
I took it that she was

Posted by accident. I took her reaction to mean that she had assumed the worst, that it was a sleazy move on his part and she was disappointed and angry because she liked him and was hoping that he wasn’t like that. But then the next day she decided she liked him enough to see past it.
HarleyQuinn21 · 20/04/2021 18:35

I don't think Ryan taking her back to his apartment was that bad, bit sleezy as he was making it out to be a "coincidence" but he was kinda just making a move on a date, the other men were purposely taking advantage of a "drunk girl" they don't know, he obviously ended up being a massive asshole by the end but I didn't think that part was too bad on his part, he didn't force her to stay even offered to take her if I remember correctly - I took it as she was angry that she wanted to go in with him but couldn't due to past expirences, I don't know, this is just my take on it.

propf · 22/04/2021 22:06

She looked past the apartment thing because she liked him but even from the get go he was a creep, making a snobby judgement about her working in a coffee shop for instance, maybe not an evil offence but not the trait of a nice person.

Ruminating2020 · 23/04/2021 23:31

I also wish she didn't pay with her life for her revenge.

Carey Mulligan was excellent as she is in a lot of things.

clpsmum · 23/04/2021 23:34

Planning on watching this tomorrow night, I'll get back to
You!

Southwestrunningmum · 23/04/2021 23:37

Fantastic film, sadly about half way through you know it’s just not going to end well for her. Loved the music sound track to it

StellaAndCrow · 23/04/2021 23:38

I've just finished watching it clpsmum - you're in for a treat! The second half is "heart in the mouth" stuff. I don't usually notice anything particular about the visuals of films, but this one was stunning, just beautiful shots. Hope you enjoy it too :)

clpsmum · 23/04/2021 23:41

@StellaAndCrow I'm looking forward to it even more now! Thanks x

Gregorsgirl · 23/04/2021 23:44

I didn't like the end. What was the point of that? It didn't feel deep or involved enough for that ending. It was hardly Lars von triers or something.

propf · 24/04/2021 20:57

The murder scene was awful. It went on for so long and apparently that's how long it takes to kill someone like that. Shows how long these men have to change their mind when they kill in that way,

What would you have preferred the ending to be though out of interest ?
whenwillthemadnessend · 25/04/2021 21:12

I thought the ending was
Perfect. At first I didn't like it as your invested in Cassie and
Want her to get revenge but on reflection the ending was more powerful and made
Me think about the whole film a lot more

covetingthepreciousthings · 25/04/2021 22:13

It's up for 5 Oscars tonight, hope it wins big!

EachandEveryone · 26/04/2021 07:05

I don’t think it won anything

covetingthepreciousthings · 26/04/2021 07:17

@EachandEveryone

I don’t think it won anything
Just checked it won 1 out of 5, for best original screenplay by Emerald Fennel. Shame Carey Mulligan didn't win best actress though.
StormzyinaTCup · 26/04/2021 07:19

Emerald Fennell won an Oscar for best original screenplay ⭐️ . I’m pleased that they didn’t walk away empty handed.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 30/04/2021 12:56

@DeRigueurMortis

Great movie.

I loved/hated the conclusion.

Yes, this. I was crying by the end as I was so sad for her, whilst simultaneously punching the air at her perfect revenge. Great film, should be compulsory viewing for (older) teenagers.
Queenofbeebers · 01/05/2021 23:40

spoiler

Just watched it. Amazing film. The last scene with her in made me feel sick to my stomach. Films/Tv always show smothering someone as it happening quickly. It just wouldn’t happen like that you would fucking fight tooth and nail. And it just seemed to go on how I imagine it would. I really wanted her to pop up again horror film style and stab him in the fucking eye with the scalpel.

niki26 · 02/05/2021 00:26

I loved this film. I think I'm taking the ending a little differently to some of the rest of you...I don't think she was unexpectedly murdered. I think she knew what was going to happen, hence sending the tape to the former
Lawyer and scheduled messages to Ryan....Al got away with sexually assaulting Nina.... but I think she essentially sacrificed her life in order for Al to go to jail for murder. Almost that she wanted to commit suicide but doing it this way she felt she got some form of justice for Nina.

Ikeasucks · 08/05/2021 02:02

“What do you mean @derigeurmortis?
I thought the scene in the bachelor party was particularly and deliberately shocking.
It was the only actual violence in the movie and it was so violent”

It could actually be seen as self defense. The guy didn’t want to go with her - she manipulated him, then incapacitated him, threatened him with torture and possibly death and he fought back.

Strange movie but she really showed them - and het parents, and her coffee shop friend, snd the mother of her dead friend

NutellaEllaElla · 14/05/2021 23:33

God I just finished this film. Really well made, well written, twists I didn't see coming. Gutted that Cassie had to die. I liked the come uppance of the 'nice guys'

Fere · 13/08/2021 22:26

I also thought it reminded.me of Tarantino films but more subtle.
Very good film.

Needhelp101 · 16/08/2021 23:26

Another one here that thought it was like a Tarantino film (if he'd been a feminist). I too was also in tears at the end 🥺.
It was excellent.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/08/2021 06:36

i really enjoyed this film.
great ending
