Anyone seen it? It had a limited cinema release (probably so it could qualify for the Oscars) but it is now available on Netflix

I really wanted to like it, but I was just meh about the whole thing - the only bit I liked was right at the end. It was all a bit too try hard for me.

@EachandEveryone OMG laura Dern is so playing the same character! And YYY to all those others meh Allen films. SJ always has the same expression too. Like a stunned bambi.

LD is favourite to win the Oscar. I hope Florence Pugh wins it. SJ is the same in everything.

The best divorce film since Kramer v Kramer? Not in my opinion. Probably because I didn’t like any of the characters. Glad I watched it on tv and didn’t waste money seeing it at the cinema.

I liked it a lot except for the big argument scene near the end. That felt very contributing and stagey. The things they were saying to each other didn’t feel real.

nitgel · 02/02/2020 21:36

I really liked this. I imagine its quite a true representation of La divorces

Corcra · 02/02/2020 21:43

I found it so contrived. I had to stop watching it, but I did try for over an hour

EnidBlyton · 07/02/2020 06:21

The male lead had the same hair as Kramer vs Kramer
i did manage to watch.
i could not see anything special about Laura Dern at all.
the lawyers scene was terrible
the row agree, a bit thespy.
the story was ok
would Not recommend.

I have just watched it and really loved it. I thought it was quite Woody Allen too. Felt very very sad at the end.

nosswith · 30/08/2020 08:40

I saw it last year at the London film festival. Whilst a change to see Scarlett Johannsen as a normal person not some fantasy of Woody Allen or some other dirty old man, I thought it vastly overrated and the least enjoyable of Noah Baumbach's work I have seen.

dudsville · 30/08/2020 08:42

@NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat

I found it really thespy. Long, choreographed soliloquies etc. not naturalistic at all.
I agree with this.
dudsville · 30/08/2020 08:44

@MrsGrindah

It was dire. Both characters deeply unappealing and self absorbed. And no storyline whatsoever. Arty farty up itself nonsense.
And this!

I love the lamp in his LA apartment and have been trying all year to find one like it! Any ideas how I could track it down? With my luck it’s probably a 1 off by a fancy / waaay beyond my budget designer 🙄
