Went to see this yesterday and bloody loved it. Funny, heartwarming and heartbreaking. Has anyone else been?

I saw this at the weekend and loved it. The ending was so perfect - crazy but just exactly right. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it at all as I don't usually watch films about the war as I find them too bloody and also too manipulative with your emotions. Also I went to Auschwitz a few months ago and I thought I wouldn't be able to watch something that was a comedy about Hitler, but it definitely wasn't about Hitler at all, it was about Jojo himself more than anything. That butterfly though...

I give it 9/10
definitely worth a watch

I've just got back from watching this film. Tip-top.

And yes, it's not a film about HItler, but about moral growth.

Not in a spoiler way, but the use of archive footage + the Beatles to show the swooning adulation of Hitler worked well, i.e. Jo-Jo's adoration of him was not some weird personal quirk but a historical fact.

Every actor was spot-on.

Just seen this, bloody brilliant. Spot on acting. Jo jo deserves a nomination at least. So different from anything else. Very funny, (German shepherd joke had me spluttering), moving and thought provoking. For me a better film than 1917 which I found very flat.

Loved it

MaxPaddyandHarry · 01/02/2020 05:58

We loved it too. The two child actors, particularly JoJo, were very good.

BorneoBabe · 01/02/2020 06:24

@KTD27 I thought it was average, and Scarlett's ending was too rushed.

I find Taiki's stuff very hit or miss. Ragnorak is one of the best films of the past decade, IMO. But I thought What We Do In The Shadows was generic and boring.

PurrBox · 02/02/2020 20:54

I thought it was terrible. It didn't seem to me to show at all how children cope and think. I found it was brutal and dark without being nuanced, insightful or true.

I know everyone seems to love it and find it moving, but I just felt very differently.

SouthWestmom · 05/02/2020 23:09

I didn't like it. It was really boring in places and I couldn't get the accents as they kept becoming German and then back to normal.

Liked the one eyed guy but that was about it.

Dc fainted at the blood which was fun in the dark cinema two seats away.

Just back from seeing this at the cinema. I’m glad I saw it and even more glad that I didn’t have an 11 year old with me, it seemed very grown up for a 12.
