What films that you have watched this year have been your favourites and has stuck with you?

My top three films that I watched this year would have to be:
1.bohemian rhapsody

  1. call me by your name
  2. three billboards outside ebbing, Missouri

The films don’t have to of been released this year, they could be classics that you have finally watched in 2018.
Just trying to find some film inspiration so I can binge watch films over Christmas.

I rarely go to the cinema but did enjoy Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman.
I wish I'd found time to see Christopher Robin and Paddington 2.

stokieginge · 17/12/2018 06:52

@BackforGood watched Christopher Robin last weekend loved it. Highly recommend.

@ellss I second the Greatest showman! One of my all time favourite films now.

Avengers & Black Panther we're also very good if you're into marvel/superhero.

Bowbridge · 18/12/2018 18:09

Loved Bohemian Rhapsody and The Greatest Showman.

I watched The Book Thief, that I recorded 2 years ago, at the weekend. What a beautiful film. It is one of the best films I have ever seen along with The Kite Runner. I also watched The Reluctant Fundamentalist this year. Another great film, very different but equally as good as the book.

cloud1183 · 18/12/2018 20:05

I second Bohemian Rhapsody and Call me by your name. I blubber all through Bohemian Rhapsody and can’t ever remember being so affected by a film in the cinema. Can’t wait to see it again

CMBYN was a film I watched in the summer and it broke my heart. The final scene in front of the fire with the music playing was worthy of an actor for that young actor.

Also really enjoyed I, Tonya and Oceans 8 was a pleasant surprise

Annandale · 18/12/2018 21:21

Death of Stalin and Ladybird.

Destinysdaughter · 18/12/2018 21:27

I thought Blackklansman by Spike Lee was a stunning and truly original film. It was so powerful at the end and really relevant to what’s happening in today’s America. I think it should be Oscar nominated for best film, best original screenplay and best actor. Sadly I don’t think it will get any of them. Bloody shame as it was thrilling, beautifully shot and so well acted.

Annandale · 18/12/2018 21:51

Arrgh destinysdaughter I really wanted to see that, even booked but had to miss it.

FranKatzenjammer · 18/12/2018 21:55

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas
Cargo
Wonder

Processedpea · 18/12/2018 21:56

Brooklyn is on iPlayer so good watched it twice

Plaiceholder · 18/12/2018 22:01

Into the Spider-Verse's animation and soundtrack we're phenomenal.

AlbertWinestein · 30/12/2018 02:01

100% agree that Into the the Spider-Verse is absolutely fantastic.

I would actually struggle to get it down to three this year as I think there have been some amazing movies released. Mid90s is fantastic. Eighth Grade is incredible. A Star is Born is probably going to win the Oscar and deservedly so for what it is, but it's not a patch on Green Book. I loved Bohemian Rhapsody but only because the last 40 minutes saves the film. A Quiet Place and Leave No Trace were excellent. I personally really loved A Simple Favor but I know that's very much a love or hate movie.

I'm about to watch BlackKlansman so will come back to that one!

Snugglepiggy · 30/12/2018 15:16

Bahamian Rhapsody for me.And can't remember if it was this or last year but saw it twice I loved it so much -the film Lion. And also caught up with the Book Thief and Brooklyn too recently.

Snugglepiggy · 30/12/2018 15:18

Oh and yes to Paddington 2.Much better than the first. And Hugh Grant made the film.

TwistedStitch · 30/12/2018 15:21

God's Own Country- it's on Netflix at the moment. One of the best films I've seen in a long time, completely mesmerising.

thismeansnothing · 30/12/2018 15:24

I only saw it last week but Mary Poppins Returns. I LOVED it. DD got the soundtrack for Xmas and weve had it on every day. The place where lost things go has me blubbing every time 🤣

I also really liked Isle of Dogs

ikltownofboothlehem · 30/12/2018 15:25

Paddington 2
Three Billboards
Bohemian rhapsody
Death of Stalin
Hidden Figures

Strangely enjoyed Game Night with Jason Bateman. Silly funny and a 'no-brainier' film.

BillywigSting · 30/12/2018 15:28

Into the spider verse.

Though I would say that is one of the best films I have seen for a very long time. It's really really excellent.

Whatabanana · 30/12/2018 15:32

Guardians of the galaxy, the second one. Even better than the first and really enjoyable.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 30/12/2018 15:40

Great thread! I'm a bit late to the party on some of these

It's a Wonderful Life
3 Billboards
Paddington 2

My DD saw The Nutcracker and the Four Realms and loved it - I suspect it was more because it was a Christmas school trip with sweets as the film has been panned!

JurassicGirl · 30/12/2018 15:40

Ooh lots to choose from!

I really enjoyed Divergent & will be reading the books very soon.

Deadpool made me laugh A LOT & it's not really my thing Grin

Really enjoyed the Maze Runner too.

Whatabanana · 30/12/2018 19:57

Deadpool was pretty funny and it's not my kind of thing either. I preferred the first Paddington film to the second though.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 30/12/2018 21:53

Black Panther and the Avengers.. Dreading part 4 though

Rewatched Saving Mr Banks.. Forgot about the ending!

Coco.. Loved that film and the colour in it. So pretty.
