Yes Rufflesaway - The Entity -still freaks the hell out of me.
And also The Exorcism of Emily Rose - horrific

Have any of the rest of you watched The Autopsy Of Jane Doe? It's on Netflix too and really really good - not what I was expecting at all; quite classy in a lot of ways, quite stripped back as well rather than all gore etc. It also got completely under my skin.

Is no-one going to mention Hereditary? clicks tongue

bunintheoven88 · 23/11/2018 12:40

I went to see a live reading of the original M.R James ghost story over Halloween, by the end of it I'd crept all the way down in my seat. I was terrified. There is just something about it. You should check out some of the other M.R James ghost stories for Christmas if you like a good scare, The Ash Tree is a good one. Most of them are on YouTube. 👍🏻

Tony
Fire walk with me
Antichrist

I could never watch them again. Even writing this has made my hairs on the back of my neck stand up

Eatmycheese · 23/11/2018 13:56

@stoat just how awful is hereditary?

shins · 23/11/2018 14:07

I saw Hereditary in the cinema and the audience were roaring with laughter instead of being scared. It was ludicrously bad.

The Orphanage. Scary AND heartrending.
The Innocents
The Ring (original)
Tale of Two Sisters (Korean)

scoobydoo87 · 23/11/2018 14:11

Misery
The shining
Swamp thing
The birds
The fly
American psycho

Nothisispatrick · 23/11/2018 14:18

Is the haunting on hill house or whatever it’s called jumpy? I love suspense and creepy but can not stand things that make me jump. If it’s not jumpy I’ll watch it.

I’ll second the orphanage, creepy but a genuinely good film at the same time, which is rare.

Avegemitesandwich · 23/11/2018 14:20

I think Event Horizon is a great horror film because its just not what you expect its going to be.

It's not a sci-fi people!!!

Avegemitesandwich · 23/11/2018 14:23

The original Wicker Man is so scary, but part of the horror is the '70sness' of it, and the way its shot, its just so weird in parts!

Someone upthread mentioned The Cell. Watched it thinking it was going to be crappy fluff because it had J-Lo in it, but it was bloody terrifying, and yes, brilliantly shot.

Sheitgeist · 23/11/2018 16:46

Ah, glad this thread has taken off again! Yes, the original Wicker Man is fantastic.

Disappointed to read that Hereditary is bad; I was looking forward to watching it.

How could I forget Drag me To Hell!? Funniest horror film ever.

Rachelover40 · 23/11/2018 17:16

The Omen.
