I want to browse through films and just pick one to watch.
Not on Netflix.
Where would you look?

Go online and have them mail it to you.

TheQueenOfWands · 07/02/2018 18:13

YouTube.

But I recommend Netflix. I pay about £7 a month. Blockbusters was at least £3 per DVD plus the extra charge when you inevitably have to work late and forget to take it back.

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/02/2018 18:14

IMDB?

martellandginger · 07/02/2018 18:16

I remember Blockbusters where i'd walk in choose my snacks first then 2 films. Usually a serious one and a funny one.

Now I scroll through sky cinema and spend so long looking for something to watch that I hardly bother and go to bed instead..

Vitalogy · 07/02/2018 18:21

Used to love going to Blockbuster, Häagen Dazs treat too.
I look on Youtube now.

UnimaginativeUsername · 07/02/2018 18:22

I find the Netflix experience quite reminiscent of the ages my friends and I used to spend in video shops trying to decide what to watch.

Amazon
Now TV

We had to stop my mum choosing the film at Blockbusters. She just used to pick one where she liked the picture on the front. I've sat through some shite in my life.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/02/2018 10:07

We have Netflix and I find what's in there to be quite limited.

Tried Amazon.

There just doesn't seem to be that much on there that I want to watch.

Any really good film suggestions?

Library. That’s where I go when I want to browse and feels less overwhelming than looking on Netflix.

Elementtree · 10/02/2018 10:10

Yes, and the people who worked there would save you from the most terrible mistakes. "Starship Troopers 2, Elementtree? It's nowhere near as good as the first. Look what we just got back in..."

Ah, the good old days.

JenniferYellowHat1980 · 10/02/2018 10:17

We never had a Blockbusters (small town), just a small video shop where my dad had no 1 membership! It was hard to ignore the soft porn titles on the top shelf and made me uncomfortable. Give me Prime any day.

Vitalogy · 10/02/2018 17:10

What type of films do you like OP?

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/02/2018 17:49

Oooh I'm quite eclectic in my tastes..., The last few films I've seen at the cinema were:

3 Billboards
Coco
Moonlight
Trainspoting2

Liked all of them!

LOVE Almodovar films
Watched the Sex & The City film the other day (without DH) and liked it.

Not really into sci-fi or action movies....

I miss the video shop. Ok, choosing a video was hit and miss but getting a pizza and video was an occasion in itself.

allegretto · 10/02/2018 17:57

I still go to our local video shop for our weekly DVD! Blush

Bluntness100 · 10/02/2018 18:01

Yeah, i remember that, you'd go get your dvd and some shite to eat and have to then remember to return it. Oh and get in early to get a copy of a new release. Kind of made more of a night of it than "shall we watch this one then".click.

Graphista · 10/02/2018 18:02

Bear in mind not everything on Netflix shows up on the scrolling pages too.

Sometimes it's better to search and you can search by title, actor, director, decade...

Cherrypi · 10/02/2018 18:03

I miss video shops. Loved three for a fiver when I lived on my own. Our village had this amazing cavernous video shop and going over to pick one on a Saturday as kids was a real event.

VioletCharlotte · 10/02/2018 18:05

I miss Blockbuster too. Getting a film and some treats seemed like much more of an occasion. Everything's on tap now so you appreciate it less.

CakeOfThePan · 10/02/2018 18:13

I like a lot of old 80’s and 90’s films none of the online services seem to cater for them so I have to buy them which is annoying.

CakeOfThePan · 10/02/2018 18:14

I walked past our old blockbuster last night it made me sad actually, it’s still got the sign and quick drop

Fekko · 10/02/2018 18:16

I loved our old video shop. They would recommend films and save them for you in case you dropped in. All the staff were film mad and very knowledgeable.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 10/02/2018 18:24

Will have to up my searching game!
