Morning

I am looking forward to the release of Ghost Stories next April:
www.imdb.com/title/tt5516328/

Looks very good from the trailer, and the theatre version is said to be very good.

I love MR James, Woman in Black and all the classic style ghost stories. Also love The Ring, Paranormal Activity series, and anything Stephen King.

I don’t like anything very gory or that has excessive violence/torture in it, do not find that entertaining whatsoever. Having said that, I did enjoy and highly recommend The Last Shift (which was fairly gory but not ott) www.imdb.com/title/tt2965466/

What are your favourite ghost story style films? I am looking for good scary films to watch on dark and gloomy nights!

Thanks so much.

I'd highly recommend checking out The Innkeepers. It doesn't seem to be particularly well known but it's a great little film. Don't bother with the trailer, it makes it look like a boring modern jump fest and it's really not.

I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House might be worth checking out. It seems to polarise people somewhat. It thinks it's a lot cleverer than it is but it's different and very pretty to look at. It's fairly gentle as far as horror goes but is quite atmospheric.

I'm not into horror but I like a good ghost story. Sixth Sense was good.

userthen I loved The Living and The Dead, such a fab twist in the last episode and the soundtrack was amazing. A real shame they didn't do the second series. I wish it had been Netflix not the Beeb, as they would have had the money to keep it on.

Whitehorsewilliam yes it was very good wasn't it? Was v surprised it didn't get a second series.

The Babadook? Was on Netflix don't know if it still is. Some hate it though so maybe read up about it first.

I saw Ghost Stories at the theatre and it was absolutely terrifying. Hoping the film is as good

I would also recommend The Orphanage and The Devils Backbone, both excellent films. The Eye (original version) is also very good as is Dark Water and Ringu.
Stir of Echoes is great too

It Follows is excellent (someone else has mentioned this already). The Cabin in the Woods (if you haven't seen it already as it's a few years old). It starts out like a standard horror film but then twists into something quite different. Get Out is more recent and is absolutely brilliant.

The Cabin in the Woods is one of my all time favourite movies but no ghosts. Still well worth watching though

Ooh Sinister is pretty good too. Kind of a ghost movie

Sorry, it's Them, not They

IT is good but a bit childish though. I would say Annabelle: Creation is one of a horror movie. It actually makes you weep!!

It Follows - absolutely brilliant.

Also, Babadook and The Autopsy of Jane Doe - both SO creepy (and kinda ghosty)

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is fabulous. Really makes you consider different theories. I thought it would be rubbish and some sort of wannabe "The Exorcist," but it really wasn't.

The Others starring Nicole Kidman has always been a favourite of mine (the only horror that honestly freaked me out) and Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon is also another good ghost movie.

Actually I’ve not watched either for a few years so may look for them to watch this weekend Grin

Ouija, Annabelle: Creation, Rings, Sadako vs. Kayako are really scary. I couldn't walk out of the house in the night for days after watching these. Grin

Oh yes the original Haunting of Hill House is great - haven't watched it for years, time to revisit it!

The Changeling - the original George C Scott version - is great and super eerie.

Personal Shopper - maybe not a satisfying story but very atmospheric.

Have you watched the Ghost Stories For Christmas from the BBC? A mixed bag but some were great...
