Wonder woman (what age)?

Dying to take my kids to see this (great to have a woman superhero), but am wondering what age it would be suitable for.

It is PG-13 in the States and 12 A in the UK, I understand, but has a hopeful and non-ironic hero/ine, so might possibly be relatively ok for slightly younger children?

Has anyone seen whole film yet? If my DC have seen Iron man, Captain America, etc is Wonder Woman going to be ok?

I saw it today and it was sodding brilliant.

There is no sex beyond a kiss. There is a lot of violence, as you would expect, but not blood and gore violence, standard superhero film type violence.

The only thing that I would say is that it is set in WWI and there is a lot about the horror of war. Not blood and guts but family homes being invaded by soldiers. It isn't shown but it is talked about. Also there is a scene where there are wounded soldiers with arms off etc.

It really depends on your DC but if you are happy with them seeing the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy et al then you should be OK.

Saw it today. Flippin' awesome!!!

It's loud. Lots of explosions. As a PP has said, it's violent but not explicitly gory.

The Amazons are wonderful - strong and attractive but not sexualised. Their fighting scenes are stunning.

Couple of cracking plot twists. ;-)

Saw it last night at midnight - really great.

But I wouldn't take younger children or anyone too sensitive - some of the WWI stuff might be too much.

After as much research as I could do, I decided to take DS (who is 9) on the grounds that

  • he has to write an newspaper type article about something for a school project and this would do nicely give or take a 12A rating
  • it was reportedly a very good film
  • he is a history buff and has a very good idea of what happened in WWI, having devoured all the Horrible History info about it
  • the (female) director has said she set out to make a film that was fairly true to the WWI setting, but that little girls would be able to go and see. As I hoped, this translated as suggesting the tragedy of war but non-gory in a sombre and respectful way.
  • I really wanted to see it
  • it has a female superhero hurrah

He found some of the denouement mildly scary but otherwise really enjoyed it. We had a really good conversation over lunch about mythology, who was good or bad in WWI, how the Amazons organised their society, how good the film was and why, Diana Prince's values and motivation and so on. He didn't seem fazed by having a woman hero and really wants to see the next one, mind you he hasn't got to see any other 12A superhero movies which might have a bearing on this.

For me, the heavy loading of moral values makes me much happier in taking him to see this.

Watched it today, it's amazing, I literally had shivers watching it as she is so powerful. Wouldn't take a sensitive kid though.

DH and I went to see it today (left the kids in nursery) and I came out giddy. Such a good film and such a great role model when DD is old enough to be excited by such things like her mum is.

DD17 saw with friends and absolutely loved it. She wants to go and live on an Amazonian island and learn how to kick ass! Her older brother has been encouraging her to join a gym and learn self-defence (he does krav mags) so this might just make her do it Grin

I've just been with my son (he's 28, so no worries there). I definately wouldn't take younger children - there's a particularly horrible scene of a prisoner being experimented on with poison gas. I was bored.
I did love watching the actress, and she has the most wonderful voice and acts well. But a set of sidekicks of a scotsman with no discernable function, a trickster Turk, and a Native Indian, again with no particular function.
I guess they, plus the mad scientist, plus the watch, are all being held for the sequel.
Most irritatingly, what truly empowers her is lurve. She's almost defeated, and thinking of the Chris Pine character gives her the strength to win. No male super hero is motivated by his girlfriend.

I love loved it. Can't wait till my children are old enough to watch it. I'd guess about 10 is fine, depending on how sensitive the child is.

That's not how I saw it. It was Steve Trevor's act of sacrifice that proved her there is good and bad in all people, and she finally chose to believe in the good and become their protector no matter what.

Anyway, we saw it today with my two sons (8 year and 4 year-old). We all loved it. One of our favourite superhero movies so far. It is so much better than the awfully boring Batman vs Superman movie.

Saw it yesterday with 2 DS aged 5 and 8. Enjoyed it. Did not think it was inappropriate for them. They loved the action and it is v similar to other movies they have see e.g. Avengers, transformers etc. They did get a little bored with the non action bits like back story. I liked the first part with the Amazons. I liked that Diana told Steve she didn't need him to tell her what she could do. Think it's good for my DS to see strong female characters.

Dd 7 loved it. She was just blown away by the action scenes.

There's a few scary scenes but she didn't get the implications of a gas canister thrown into a room, or what a gas mask was for.

What upset her a bit was a horse stuck in some water. Because she actually saw it and I think it reminded her of the neverending story.

It could probably have been 20 minutes shorter.

I can only think that you haven't seen many (other than the mainstream) superhero movies.

A pretty good film, a bit slow in places. but certainly better than some of the superhero films that come out.

It's quite violent although it's bloodless, comic book violence typical in 12A CGI blockbuster. Nothing detailed or realistic.

There's one gory moment when you see the stump of a soldier's leg after being blown off (you aren't shown how it happened), but it's very brief and highlights the nature of war rather than being gratuitous or exploitative.

It's fine for 10+ IMO although it depends on your child.
