Part of the end is bothering me. I've seen it twice.

Why didn't the Aurors have their memories obliviated by the rain like the No-Majs / Muggles. We know the Obliviate spell works on wizards, thanks to Gilderoy Lockhart (Order of Merlin, Third Class, Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defence League and five-time winner of Witch Weekly's Most-Charming-Smile Award). If Scamander had been testing it and found its useful properties, he must have been testing on Muggles, then surely? Bit unethical

The Swooping Evil potion spreading through the rain was a stretch as it is, let alone it not affecting the magical population.

That's a good point about the rain and the wizards not being obliviated.
My biggest gripe is Graves being Grindelwald (besides the miscast of Johnny Depp). Isn't Grindelwald doing stuff at that time in Europe? For Graves to be in the position he is he must have been in the US for quite a while. There was no need to make him Grindelwald, he could have been a follower or something.
I loved it, loved the creatures, and the characters, and picking plot holes apart is part of what makes HP fun.

Didn't they avoid it? The sister used a magical umbrella when saying goodbye didn't she?

I wanted to know what happened to the little girl. And also whether the old guy knew he had had a son that died, or if that just 'went' in the memory loss.

Maybe the latter, Graves being Grindelwald, will be explained further in the next movie(s) - perhaps.

Angelina Jolie's dad would still have known about the son. The spell doesn't wipe their memories completely does it? It just rewrites things.

And weren't most of the magical people under the subway when it was raining. When Queenie went out to kiss Jacob, she had a magical umbrella came out of her wand. I assume those wizards putting right al the damage had used some form of spell to protect themselves.

Yes to the rain, also it wiped the memories of the Nomags who were inside their houses m but not Jacob (also a nomag) until he steps into it from the underground.

Also, why does it always take them so long to think of using accio to summon things. E.g the niffler

Memory charms, like Obliviate, can be used to erase specific memories. Not just whole memories.

I suppose a protecty kind of spell for the wizards putting things right is possible - maybe they Impervioused themselves. They're the ones I was thinking of, rather than those in the subway.

Was gutted Graves was Grindelwald (I only twigged when he gave Credence the pendant - my son was much quicker on the uptake with the matched hairstyles). Colin Farrell was very very good and Johnny Depp is always 'Johnny Depp as...'

Could've accio'd the beetle in the teapot scene too!

My DD was wondering about Newt's wand. When Hagrid was expelled from Hogwarts they broke his wand, so how come Newt has his?

It was Graves asking Newt why Albus Dumbledore likes him so much, that started making me suspicious. AD was a teacher at Hogwarts then, why did that US wizard know him?
I would prefer Colin Farrell being in the next movies to Johnny Depp.

DS1 wants to know why Newt arrived and left by boat rather than some more magical means of transportation. And why there wasn't at least a portkey at the port.

Newt worked in the ministry, so can't be thought of as an actual threat. So maybe he had his wand returned to him on entry to the ministry. Or he may have been of age when his incident occurred so they weren't able to take it from him??

atticus - JKR says, on Twitter that he couldn't apparate as it is too damaging to do so over long distances. Not all wizards ride broomsticks well enough to make the journey. He was moving around various places - so maybe a portly wasn't possible at all this locations. Or maybe he just liked quaint steamboats, lol!

Probably international portkeys are expensive compared to a muggle boat trip. I think newt doesnt have that much income, and it must get expensive travelling the world and feeding all those creatures.

Actually she also answers the portkey question with: "Consider the effect on the contents of his case..."

I thought hagrid's incident was more severe, as another student died - hence his wand was snapped. Perhaps he was discriminated against for being half giant, too.

Though that shiny coin loving Niffler must make financing his trips a bit easier ;)

I liked the reference to Newt's brother 'the war hero'. For such a tiny exchange it really gave you the sense that Newt is the other, lesser one, a kind of glimpse into being an outsider all his life (as he implied in his conversation about Leta with Queenie).

I thought Newt def has Aspergers Syndrome. All the way through but esp when he was saying goodbye at the end.

igneo I think the real Graves will have been powerful already and that's why grindelwald took his identity. Not that grindelwald took years building himself up in the US.

I agree, it made me think of Barty Crouch Jr stealing Moody's identity and using Polyjuice potion in Goblet of Fire.
