Power, and the wonderful Alan Cummings camping it up,just brilliant.

Bucket list - with Morgan freeman and Jack Nicholson, an excellent but unknown film

So many brilliant films here - not rtft but has anyone mentioned

The Brand New Testament

God's daughter (10 years old), escapes from heaven and comes down to Earth to find 6 disciples and write a new testament. Set in Belgium and very funny.

Bucket list isn't unknown. Song from it won a Grammy and had lots of nominations.

Europa Europa.

Black and white, German language film, based on an astonishing true story.

Blonde, blue eyed, Jewish boy from the Sudetenland (speaks German and Polish), is separated from his family, escapes the Germans, ends up in the 'care' of the Russians, is 'liberated' by the Germans, is mistaken for an Aryan German boy, becomes a member of Hitler Youth, is made to join the German Army and, on the end of the war ends up disguised as a prisoner finding his brother in a concentration camp.

Although tragic and bleak, the story is told with humour and shows unexpected acts of kindness from the strangest of places.

Fish Tank with Michael. Every scene is seen from the point of view of Mia, a teenage misfit growing up in a run down council estate with her single mum and little sister. Then the mum's new boyfriend comes to live and things get complicated.

The Wonder Boys - Michael Douglas plays a professor in a college town. Very funny and moving with lots of different characters - bit like American Beauty in it's quirky and more character based.

Tremors - like a B monster movie. Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward have great chemistry as two friends/ handymen stuck in their small hick desert town battling giant man eating worms - hilarious and absolutely fabulous.

Europa Europa

Yes, a good movie and probably little known - saw it at the cinema when it first came out.

Gattica

One of my favourite movies and very understated with Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law. Set in the near future where the ruling elite are all from genetically perfectly crated embryos. Ethan Hawke is conceived the old fashioned way - so genetically flawed but dreams of flying into space with the other genetically elite astronaughts.

In Order of Disappearance: a Scandinavian snow plow driver goes after the people who killed his son.

Old boy - korean film. Quite weird with some violence and wonderful sound track (subtitles)
Polisee - french film about the police with some moving moments and a great soundtrack
Babettes feast - danish slow moving but beautiful and great for foodies. Theres actually a following of people (based in the usa i think) who regularly cook the whole dinner babette cooks.
Cinema paradiso mentioned before - watch the directors cut which is longer but includes a portion which was taken out for the original release.

House of fools - a Russian film about a psychiatric hospital taken over by Chechen rebels, the staff all leave and the patients are left to fend for themselves. One of the patients has a delusion that she's in a relationship with Bryan Adams.

I haven't seen it in ages but I really liked Brokedown Palace - 2 young women (Kate Beckinsale and Claire Danes) go travelling in Thailand and end up getting busted for smuggling cocaine (and other drugs?), they may have been framed. Film follows them trying to get out of harsh Thai prison.

Miracle Mile

Think was late 80s with Anthony Edwards and Mare Wynningham. Edwards accidentally takes an incoming call from a pay phone outside a diner in LA. It's a soldier trying to call his family as he's just pressed the button and nuclear war has started.

And then...
