Anyone planning on watching?

No, and the BBC live reporting has ground to a halt.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 28/02/2016 22:55

I'm planning on watching! I've got E red carpet, my duvet, my best friend and a pizza Smile

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 28/02/2016 23:18

Me!
Love the Oscars.
Which leads me to the following...

A Which actors/films of Oscars past do you think were 'robbed'? ie deserved it more or were a personal favourite of yours?
B Which actors do you think are the worst examples of Pity Oscars ie for a role not comparable with others previously nominated for?
C Which actors do you deem to be most 'first Oscar' cursed? ie win but never seem to capitalise on it.
D Which actor/film/category in your opinion was wrongly snubbed? ie not nominated

Mine:
A
Sigourney Weaver Aliens (lost to Marlee Marlin)
Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean (lost to Sean Penn)
Brokeback mountain (lost to Crash Scientology vote)

B
Judi Dench winning for Shakespeare in Love, has done far better work before and after Harvey Weinstein PR machine

C
Mira Sorvino, no idea what she has done subsequently without wikiing

D
Take that Blush Rule the world (Stardust) Best song

Enjoy tonight! Rooting for Room.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 28/02/2016 23:29

Marlee Matlin (autocorrect grr)

Cate Blanchett robbed for Elisabeth roles (by Gwynnie and Marion)
I think many get awarded sometimes for body of work/overdue eg Leo tonight, Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore last year...
I cannot name either black actor from Jerry Maguire or Green Mile Blush or what they went onto, Oscars so white indeed
Would have liked Woody Harrelson to have got nominated for Zombieland, regardless of the movie genre

TrionicLettuce · 28/02/2016 23:44

I won't be watching but I'm keeping everything crossed that Mad Max does well.

I'd particularly like to see John Seale getting Cinematography -he was robbed at the BAFTAs

VenusRising · 28/02/2016 23:51

When are the black oscars?

I'm a little bit disappointed by them this year. Seems very strange to be so racially mono cultural, and so sexist too. So, meh.

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 28/02/2016 23:54

Won't be watching.

Really enjoyed The Martian and would love to see it do well. But I really want Leo to get his Oscar Grin

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:01

Noone else watching? I am watching in Germany, some poor pro 7 woman is being ignored by all and sundry and trying her best English with some really unenthusiastic responses. Cate Blanchett looks beautiful. yes I am being shallow looking at the frocks

woodcabernet · 29/02/2016 01:04

I'm here!

I'm being shallow too

I'm watching on Youtube! Just seen Leo have his red carpet interview. I really think he deserves an Oscar but perhaps not necessarily for this film.

I think it's a shame about all the hype too as I think in any other year Eddie would have taken the Oscar and made it two years in a row which would have been quite historic.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:21

Waves to wood and dream!
My poor German Annemarie has just begged the yanks to grab Mark Ruffalo for her but to no avail. Her tongue was on the floor, I know how she feels. He hasn't aged.
I am going to nuke a curry in the microwave, sod it!
The local cinema show all this with unlimited coffee and donuts but my fellow expats are working in the morning.
Matt Damon has aged well. Sacha borat Cohen is not so friendly on the red carpet.
I can hear a mouse squeaking in the kitchen. Bugger.
Tom Hanks took the Oscar tawo years in a row dream Philadelphia and Forrest gump. Russell Crowd might have managed it had he not gone batshit at the baftas. He lost the successive year (a beautiful mind) after gladiator to Denzel (personally thought training day role was worst of his body of work but he had been overlooked before).
Have yet to see Eddie or most of the nominees but I had hair like Eddie following a bad perm so have now cut it short like Aliens Ripley.

woodcabernet · 29/02/2016 01:22

I disagree on Eddie. I thought Alicia vikander in the Danish girl was great - deserved best actress rather than supporting actress. But Eddie was a bit too similar to how he was in the theory of everything. I'm yet to be convinced he has range

two
Crowe
Oooh Eddie on red carpet in velvet.
He looks very wholesome. Nice guy.

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:25

I am watching.

Cate Blanchett looks amazing.

Kate Winslet also is looking fabulous.

Deniz Gamze Ergüven looks wonderful.

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:26

And brand new uncle, bless. I have seen neither film wood so cannot comment on his range but the photos of him as a woman were stunning. Not that he should get an Oscar for passing iyswim but still Envy that he rocked the curls better than me!

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:28

Can't bear Di Caprio.

Did you see him with KATE Winslet? She was all excited and gushy to see him (yes, that gushy routine can get a bit annoying, but she looked genuinely pleased to be on the red carpet with him.) and he barely looked at her. His little shark eyes were just cold and shark-like, did not so much as give her a glance. Probably because she is not a 21 year old lingerie model. Foul man.

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:28

Love Jennifer Lawrence's hair!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:30

French12345 love your user name, used to tell that joke to my French class!
Also impressed by your spelling of Denis.
Jennifer Lawrence as late as I would be, bless her. Allegedly, last year she left something in a taxi that would have erm perked up proceedings digital spy yes I am ashamed I read their sleb gossip thread
It's starting!!!!! Yay!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:31

Deniz

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:33

Ooooh Chris is on!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:34

I adore Monkseal's blog/twitter and my favourite tweet recently was him referring to Leo as Leonardo de Capri sun. Whenever he looks borange like now that's what I think of!

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:35

Chris is kicking off on racism bad style!
Go Chris!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 29/02/2016 01:36

He's knocking it out the park.

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:36

"Too busy being raped and lynched to worry about best cinematographer!"

UnDeuxTroisCatsSank · 29/02/2016 01:37
