Who should play Jack Reacher?

Inspired by the James Bond thread. If anyone was to make another Jack Reacher film then who should play him? 15 years ago it would have been Liam Neeson. I can't think of anyone suitable now.

Sean bean whilst fitting the character is too small, a taller Bruce Willis, but have just come across a Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgard who looks perfect, or even whilst not famed for his acting skills Dolph Lungrand

I'm glad other people thought the same re: Tom Cruise! I live the books but didn't watch the film.

I had Dolph in the role as well. Must an more animated Dolph.
After all, the description of JR is something like 'he looks like tights stuffed with chestnuts'.

It was pure vanity that Cruise decided to take the project. I have nothing against small men (in fact, I prefer them), but it was bizarre.

Cocolepew-Janitor from Scrubs is a great suggestion. He's probably the closest looks wise. Alexander Skarsgard with the blond crew-cut he had in Straw Dogs wouldn't be bad either.

The Scarsgard chappy looks too young. Mark Harmon might have been good 10 years ago but he's just a little too far the other side now...

Cannot shift the janitor out of Scrubs in my head. He will always be The Janitor. Nothing else. Ever.

Also, was trying to work out who the hell Scarsgard could have played in Straw Dogs and wondering if you could have muddled him up with his father...

Tom Hardy. emwithme I think Tim Cruise invested In the rights to the story and cast himself In the lead role.

I think Tom Hardy, although very lovely, is also somewhat on the short side.... How about Gerard Butler? And how tall is Brad Pitt? He's knocking on 50 now isn't he, so is about the right age, and with a military type crewcut... I could go for that.

Hadn't thought of he person of interest actor before but agree that he would be good. I've always thought that Adam Copeland who plays Dwight in Haven would be a good Reacher

Statham is about 5'2". Just no.

Some of the above suggestions are just far to clean cut/'nice'.

I am gonna go against the grain and say, once I got over the height issue, I thought Cruise did a pretty good job with Reacher. He has the experience - and demeanour. He is also pretty good at playing tough guy. I wouldn't be gutted if he remained as Reacher...

Agree with Reece but on a blonde theme how about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister)? Tall, sexy and about 45.

Alexander Skarsgard maybe? Certainly fits the bill physically, but perhaps a bit too pretty.

Daniel Craig would play the part well I think (better than Cruise fgs), but I don't think he's very tall.

Really didn't think cruise would be any good, but I quite enjoyed the film, just watched it as an action thriller and tried to forget he was playing reacher!

Aaron Eckhart who played two face in the dark knight and Julia Roberts boyfriend in Erin Brocovitch.
