For me laugh wise is the Austin Powers, The Inbetweeners, American Pie and Little Nicky. Says a lot about my sense of humour! Cry wise I think the worst was Who will love my children, I watched it with my Mum and sisters and we were all howling. Scared wise it was Jaws when I was a child I was petrified that a shark would come up the plug hole in the bath or up the toilet it gave me nightmares for ages. As an adult I tend to avoid horrors but I did watch I am Legend which was pretty scary.

For laughs I like Office Space. Scary - don't know, I'm not a fan of scary movies much.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - I didn't much like the film, but I can't even think about the ending without sobbing! I was describing it to a friend crying my eyes out!

noideawhattoget · 23/02/2015 15:06

for laughs probably zombieland, st trinians and wild target. films that make me cry, one thats guaranteed every time is pearl harbour, but also the green mile, and benjamin button. scary films, well i like horrors so most films dont scare me, but there are certain ones i dont like to watch alone like woman in black and orphan

kelda · 23/02/2015 15:08

For cry the most, The Broken Circle Breakdown. It was up for a foreign language Oscar last year. I so rarely cry at films but this was an exception.

CheeseBored · 23/02/2015 15:26

Shadowlands (about CS Lewis' wife's death) makes me sob - but very worthwhile. Also the Elephant Man Sad

Clockwise - about a head teacher on route to the annual Headmaster's conference - never ever fails to make me laugh.

The Omen and the Exorcist both terrify me, though the Exorcist has quite a subtle and beautiful message about redemption, imho.

Strokethefurrywall · 23/02/2015 15:37

The Exorcist still haunts my dreams now.

Romeo & Juliet, The Notebook and Dances With Wolves made me howl, literally juddering, howling sobs. I try and avoid anything that makes me weepy but it doesn't take much to set me off.

The Nutty Professor made me laugh but thats because I was stoned when I was 18. For ultimate non-stoned laughs, it was Team America, and that shit just gets funnier each time I see it.

HearCerseiRoar · 23/02/2015 15:41

Films that have had me rolling on the floor in stitches: Trading Places, Coming to America, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, any of the Laurel and Hardy films, likewise any of the Chevy Chase National Lampoon films, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Withnail and I, Shakespeare in Love, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert...amongst others.

Films that I can't watch without sobbing: Disney films, War Horse, Black Beauty, UP, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Colour Purple, Quills, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), Gone with the Wind, The Green Mile, Ed Wood, The Elephant Man, Arthur, The Orphanage, Pan's Labyrinth, Amadeus...and many many more.

My favourite horror films: An American Werewolf in London, The Howling, Dog Soldiers, The Descent, The Exorcist, JAWS, The Thing, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Devils, Haxan, Blood on Satan's Claw, The Amityville Horror, The Witchfinder General...there are lots more, but these are the ones that come to mind at the moment.

burnishedsilver · 23/02/2015 15:44

I cant make it though the end of Toy Story 3 without sobbing. I can't even say exactly why.

mrsschatzepage · 23/02/2015 15:44

Laughs: The castle, Life of Brian,
Tears: Little Women, The Railway Children,
Scary: Poltergeist, The start of Saving Private Ryan,

SweetValentine · 23/02/2015 15:47

Laugh most was probably Austin Powers

Cry most was I Am Legend. It was unexpected and I had no tissues in the cinema!

Scared most Final Destination. I couldn't help but see "signs" for about 3 years afterwards although I wasn't really afraid of the film, just messed me up the most.

LaurieFairyCake · 23/02/2015 15:49

Sad: Emma Thompsons scene in Love Actually

Laughs: We're the Millers

Scary: Hostel - I had no idea about it before I watched it and I'm so angry I did as those horrible images are still in my head

worldgonecrazy · 23/02/2015 15:53

Cry: Up - I am not ashamed to say I cried so hard during the entire film, I must have missed half of it.

Laugh: You Don't Mess with the Zohan, delightfully stupidly ridiculously close to the offensive knuckle the whole way through.

Scary: The Devils. Mans' inhumanity to man - nothing scarier.

MarieJeanne · 23/02/2015 18:18

Laugh - A Fish called Wanda
Cry - Bridges of Madison County
Scream - nothing, I don' t like scary films

Laugh- Bowfinger, Inbetweeners, Meet the parents/Fockers, There's something about Mary, An Unfortunate series of events, Pet detective (in fact most Jim Carey films) and loads more.

Cry- Kes, 101 Dalmations anything with animal cruelty in.

Scary- Not many that I find truly scary -The Ring, The woman in Black.

JRShotMe · 23/02/2015 18:36

Laugh: The Hangover, Zombieland, We're the Millers, Little Miss Sunshine, Austin Powers, Team America, any Python film

Cry: Marley and Me - I defy any dog owner not to cry at that film! The Cove and Blackfish, which I feel very strongly about
Also cried but to a lesser extent at Up, LoTR, War Horse, I Am Legend and Saving Private Ryan

Scary: The Descent, Wolf Creek (awful torture porn). I love horror films but seldom actually find them scary, those two just turned my stomach.

Oh my God schokolade, that scene from Bruce Almighty made me laugh so much that it brought on an asthma attack. I'm adding it to my list.

I re-watched it on youtube the other day when I was looking up film bloopers. How the hell they kept straight faces with Steve Carrell doing that is beyond me.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 23/02/2015 20:13

Laugh - Date night, Meet the Fockers
