50 Films in 2014 - Anyone care to join?

I am on the 50 books in 2014 thread but I have also set myself the target of watching 50 films in 2014.
It works out to just less than one a week. It should be easy!
I haven't really set any hard and fast rules for myself, except that they should be films I haven't seen before. They don't need to be new releases or watched at the cinema or anything.
Oh, and I have to watch them all the way through! No falling asleep halfway through and waking up when the credits roll. Blush
Does anyone care to join me keeping track and sharing reviews and recommendation like we do on the book thread?

To add to the list - Veronica Mars.
It's scheduled to be released in the States mid March, still hasn't worked out if they are going to distribute it in the UK. Will watch it off internet if I have to!

Great idea. So far this year I have watched:
Promised land - 7.5/10
Filth - 7/10 (this is my default 'didn't love it didn't hate it score')
Mobile home (Belgian film) 8/10
summer window - 6.5/10
Thanks For Sharing - 8/10
Not Another Happy Ending - 8.5/10 (partly because I LOVED her clothes and he was hot!)
Au Galop 7/10
The Hunt 8.5/10
Pauline Detective 6.5/10
Gravity (this is amazing on the big screen, not sure it'd have the same impact on a T.V. 8.5-10
Walter Mitty - 8.5/10 (thought I would hate this and it's a little strange in places, but I loved the cinematography and the soundtrack!)

GuineaPigGaiters · 26/02/2014 23:05

Oh, and Friends With Kids. Which was a bit cheesy and Holywood predictable, but still gets an 8/10.

GuineaPigGaiters · 26/02/2014 23:05

Oh, sorry, and What Maisie Knew...which was beautiful nd sad and gets a 9/10.

I'm in, so far this year:-

Robocop - nothing special but I liked it.
Blue Jasmine - excellent, stayed with me.
The Heat - mildly amusing, nothing special
The lego movie - awesome Grin
Wolverine 2 - only watched half way and then had to do something else. I've no desire to watch the rest.
About time - usual schmaltzy RC fare. Why does there always have to an annoyingly whacky young girl character Confused? Domhall Gleason sweet though.
12 years a slave - as good as the hype.
American Hustle - I liked it but then I think Christian Bale is the hottest man on the planet.

Needed something where I didn't have to think. Struggle to commit to watching a film because I know that's 2 hours gone but trying to do better...have re-watched a few films too

Watching 'Bridesmaids' later.

susiedaisy · 28/02/2014 12:39

Ohmy. I watched doubt as well. But I must admit to not really paying attention. Was the priest played by Phillip Hoffman actually guilty of the crimes the nun played by Meryl Streep accused him of! I know she doubted her end decision but I was left wondering?

Oops

OnlyLovers · 28/02/2014 17:27

I think you were supposed to be left wondering –even Meryl Streep's uber-pious uber-nun character had doubts' at the end...

That's a good film. Amy Adams is excellent in it.

  1. Practical Magic This was on tv last night. It's a rom-com from the late 90s about a family of witches. I enjoyed it, it was easy to watch, nothing too serious or scary, just a bit of fun.
susiedaisy · 01/03/2014 20:23

Ah thanks

RedBushedT · 02/03/2014 18:25
  1. Office Space. Old film from the 90's on Netflix. Really enjoyed it. Great twists and pretty feel good too!
  2. Starship Troopers. Friend insisted we watch it. It was fun but not really my thing.
ohmymimi · 02/03/2014 21:15

susie I've seen 'Doubt' three times and changed my mind on the Priest's guilt as many! Phillip S H is so good in it - one of his best performances.
Agree re Amy A Only.
Have now watched 'Bridesmaids' - disappointed overall.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/03/2014 21:23

I watched Saving Mr Banks last night, it's about how Disney acquired the film rights to Mary Poppins and the story of PL Travers working with the scriptwriters. I really enjoyed it. Emma Thompson was brilliant in it.

ohmymimi · 02/03/2014 21:25

Tomboy
For Your Consideration
The Skin I Live In
The Lincoln Lawyer

Must nearly be at 50. I watch a film most afternoons in winter (hibernator!).

ohmymimi · 02/03/2014 21:33

Really looking forward to "Saving Mr Banks' Amazing.
