What are your favourites? Cheesy or more serious horror! Which scared you, and which had you laughing hysterically?

Personally, for me it's..

Dawn of the Dead (1978 version)
Not as cheesy as I first expected

28 Days Later
One of the artier horror films

Shaun of the Dead
Fantastically funny movie

The Orphanage
Totally freaked me out, and I don't get scared very often!

Blair Witch Project
Only other horror film to scare me

Candyman
Who else dared say "candyman" in the mirror?

House on Haunted Hill (black and white)
Vincent Price at his best

The Tingler
One of my all time favourite horror films

Thanks [hgrin]

Hmm, not ringing belss with me, either and I've seen plenty of european crap low budget indie stuff Grin.

I tried a little googling with what you've said but nada. I can't help wondering... the dog's, uh, face went strange and creepy how? Like was cgi ised to make it looks weird or what?

Have you considered emailing Paul Ross? He'd probably love the attention Grin

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 25/10/2011 20:50

It was like cgi I think. I can only vaguely remember so I could be completely wrong - but I think it was a dogs face that went wierd like an old man or something. Very creepy anyway, and I thought 'Ooh I'll have to watch that' - then I forgot what it was called [hsad].

Thanks anyway Manda

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 25/10/2011 21:40

I've found it! [hsmile]

It's called The Unborn. I didn't remember the dog bit exactly as it was but there is a dog with a creepy face and it looks spooky so I'm adding it to my rental list for Halloween [hgrin]

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 25/10/2011 21:41

Found it by searching for 'dog with creepy face' on Youtube BTW - DS1's idea [hsmile]

MandaHugNKiss · 25/10/2011 21:51

Yay for DS1! Do report back when you've watched it Wink

I know it sounds sad, but did anyone else think that Jeepers Creepers was a good schlocky b movie horror film up until you saw the monster's face, and after than it wasn't scary any more.

My faves are Duel, Dracula (the Gary Oldman one, it scared the bejeseus out of me) and that Nosferatu film with Willem Defoe in, which was scary and funny.

ThingsThatGoFlumpInTheNight · 27/10/2011 12:05

I loved Jeepers Creepers - though I agree they 'outed' him too quickly - it was much scarier not knowing. The sequels were also good in a cheesy way btw.

MandaHugNKiss · 27/10/2011 16:10

Getorf Shadow of the Vampire is that 'making of' Nosferatu film. I really like it, such fun even though it doesn't showcase any of Eddie Izzards comedic talents.

Dracula with Oldman I saw in the cinema but literally all I can remember is that his shadow moved independently of his physical form which really unnerved me. I think Exorcist III was released around that timeframe too and I remember liking that a LOT. It's probably best for all concerned if we erase Exorcist II from existence truly awful hokey tripe .

THinking about it, there were some great horrors/thrillers around that time - remake of Cape Fear with De Niro. The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. Single White Female. Candyman. Arachnophobia I used to go the cinema every week with my then boyfriend. These days I'm lucky to get there three or four times a year. Ho hum.

Well we watched The Unborn last night - or the first 30 minutes or so anyway - and it was terrible. Every crap (and pretty sick) cliche you can think of without it being remotely funny. So I definitely wouldn't bother. Last time I trust Paul Ross's opinion [hconfused]
