Recently started dating a guy with right wing views. It probably won’t last, but I really, really fancy him so letting it run for the moment. (What is it about fancying the very type of men who form the group we know are the problem?! For another thread perhaps.)

He is intelligent, powerful, has the chat, body, sports car and beautiful clothes, old school attentive, is very very sexy etc. But, he comes off with things like “feminism has achieved everything it set out to” and “women are guilty of abusing men just as much as men abuse women”.

I know these things not to be true but I feel a bit tongue tied with him. And I don’t really want to delve into a deeply passion killing, university seminar-type discussion with him. I’d like a few short, pithy lines to deploy instead.

Can you suggest a few? And yes I know I should run a mile, but honestly if you saw him you’d know why I don’t want to atm!

Next time he goes on about immigrants causing XYZ you could always suggest man pay more taxes, seeing as they are the ones doing all the crime and war, which costs the most.

PInkyStarfish · 19/11/2025 11:15

Regardless of his views, you are admitting to only being with someone because of how they look.

Imagine if that was the other way round and a man trashing the personality of a woman and her views but saying he’ll stick around because she’s got big tits, tight fitting clothes and a hot body?!

Your kind of ‘feminism’ is pathetic.

Ha! i didnt realise this thread was still active. It was over a year ago I saw this guy and as I predicted myself, it didnt last! There was only so much I could take of him! Honestly though, theyre everywhere. And I seem to be like flypaper for them for some reason - which I should really give more thought to. Perhaps its because I have a senior job. I seem to attract the type who think they want to be part of a 'power couple' - like a checkout girl isnt for them because they respect women who are driven and confident (Im well beyond child bearing age and have no children so theyre not looking at my potential as a mother/ wife). But very quickly they show their true colours by obsessing over how they want to be the boss in the bedroom and show me and tell me what a 'slut/ whore/ insert whatever degrading descriptor you like' I really am. Theres always a lot of talk about "I bet no one has any idea what youre like behind closed doors". Well, yeh, I dont actually tend to talk about sex at work or display my sexual preferences in public to strangers. I mean, Im not trans 😂

What does your last line mean?

Jugendstiel · 19/11/2025 12:00

deleted as realised it's an old thread!

"He is intelligent, powerful, has the chat, body, sports car and beautiful clothes, old school attentive, is very very sexy etc."

I mean i cant see Germain Greer coming out with this line can you 😂

I kind of get the impression you'd quite like and "old fashioned" type relationship.

I think the question everyone wants you to answer though is:

Did you shag him or not?

FlatErica · 19/11/2025 12:54

I wouldn’t even be giving this one access to my fanny.

CurlewKate · 19/11/2025 12:57

Ignore. Dump. Sorted.

OchreHedgehog · 20/11/2025 07:41

Oh I shagged him obviously! Great in bed. Just tedious to listen to.

To the poster who suggested the reverse (man only with woman for looks and trashing her personality) would be abhorrent, well, yes obviously it would. But we all fancy people as a result of a wide range of factors and it's silly to suggest looks arent up there. If we think deeply about what turns us on we probably all find some of it is a bit unsettling. Im a raging feminist and believe myself to be evolved enough to at least recognise capitalism and all its oneupmanship is bullshit, but I am attracted to men who are successful, powerful, good looking and a bit bolshy and dominant. The ones who read Germaine Greer just dont do it for me.

I dont fancy people in line with an equality strategy approach though I fear that the day is coming when we might all be required to adjust our base sexual attraction instincts to fit 'socially acceptable' societal rules which mean we have to justify our choice of sexual partner in the same way employers have to demonstrate inclusivity.

OP you're being a bit feeble minded. If he had a clapped out Ford and a few teeth missing you wouldn't give him a second glance because his views are awful. He's a walking red flag.

If you can be bothered arguing with him - I learnt years ago not to wrestle with a pig - you can quote crime statistics:

  • Arrests
  • In 2022/23, men were arrested at a rate of 19.4 per 1,000, while women were arrested at a rate of 3.3 per 1,000. Men are almost six times more likely to be arrested than women.
  • Convictions
  • Men account for 75% of all convictions each year. They account for 93% of all murder convictions and more than 99% of all rape convictions.

Ask him why, if we live in a feminist eutopia, one in four women will experience abuse and a conservative one in three will be sexually assaulted. Ask him why two women a week on average are murdered by a partner and many more are disabled or commit suicide. Ask him why men can rape with impunity because our judicial system has failed women.

I could go on but I'd be wasting my breath.

Like @username299 says you’re wasting your breath.
He’s probably just trying to wind you up; use the figures above or just a steely, “you’re wrong”.
