Shirtless men

The hot weather has brought them all out where I live. I took DS to the barbers after school and there was a guy in there getting his hair cut, shirtless, in just a pair of shorts. No one batted an eyelid.

I didn't feel offended or sexually aroused, but I did think, what would happen if women did the same? Would we be regarded as mad? Might someone call the police? Would we get sexually assaulted? I think all of these are probable outcomes. Just pondering the double standard!

Well duh. So what?

Well duh society has treated them differently for millennia 😏

My point is, it's unthinkable for us, as women to walk around with our bare breasts on show. Like someone said, it's not illegal but we know it's out of bounds for us. It's like an unspoken rule. I personally would not want to walk around topless, but the option is not really there anyway, is it?

It's not unthinkable for all of us. Those are your feelings.

I should care because...?
It should stop me from exercising my legal right to go topless because...?

Teacherprebaby · 25/06/2024 21:56

There is no difference between running topless and running with a vest top on except wanting to show off what they've got. A guy ran passed today and I swear he had an inch of baby oil all over his body, if he bumped into me I'd have slid right off him. No....need...at...all. I'm not even going to start on the guy in SPEEDOS in the park on Sunday.

It's actually better to run with a top because it absorbs the sweat. Otherwise it runs down your body and is quite uncomfortable. So yeah, they're showing off.

When I was a child, twenty odd years ago we were on holiday in Spain and my dm lost her bag (stolen) in a queue for a water park. we went to police station to report it. My mum had on a bikini top and shorts and they point blank refused to speak to her because no top. My dad took off his football shirt and gave it to my mum. They were then spoken to, with my topless father present 😂😂

DeeLight00 · 25/06/2024 22:29

@XChrome do you go outside topless, to your local high street for example? Let's exclude trips to the beach.

The sun will always bring out topless men some look good sorry to say it.
TBH it dont bother me how people walk about i mean have you seen how some women dress they have their arse cheeks hanging out.
Let people be.

I think that "how some women dress they have their arse cheeks hanging out" quote is worth noting (but nobody has said anything similar). Skimpy clothing is expected for women, at least for young women. Yet even if men have the same body parts, they'd be unlikely to show them the same way, or to get away with it if they did. Maybe we can say there are restrictions on body exposure for women and for men, but the restrictions are different, and so is our response when someone pushes the limits of what's acceptable.

I give none of the fucks what you do. But please don’t be ignorant that most women won’t do the same due to the societal norms.

Society follows norms and laws.

supersonicginandtonic · 25/06/2024 22:57

@DeeLight00 I'm a chubby 40 year old woman who's had 5 kids and my boobs have gone south. Nobody needs to be subjected to that

TeiTetua · 25/06/2024 23:14

"Society follows norms and laws."

Quite right. There's a place for women and a place for men, and we should all stay in our places and not make any trouble.

We all believe that, right?

Don't be ridiculous. I wasn't tut-tutting about what other women choose to think or do. Yes, I am aware there are social norms, not having been raised by in a cave, and that lots of women feel bound by social norms regarding their bodies. I said nothing to indicate otherwise.

Men's chests and women's chests are different though.

True. Unless they've got mange most men's chests are never truly bare.

No. I feel no desire to do so. There is no purpose to it.

I don't know that men would follow the same thought process. I saw a bare chested chubby one out in the wild yesterday.

I used to live and still have relatives in the South of France in a seaside town with lots of tourists in the summer and lovely beaches.

All the business there (shops, supermarkets, restaurants, cafes...) have signs on their doors stating a required dress code: basically people are not allowed on the premises if they are wearing bathing suits or are shirtless...and the temperatures are much higher there.

Basically I think it is a very British thing that some men do (especially the ones who are covered in tattoos and have beer bellies...).

I think that it is really disrespectful to think it is OK to put your sweaty shirtless body in a hairdresser chair. Disrespectful to the next client and the hairdresser who will have to wipe out the chair (I hope....).

Whycantiwinmillionsandsquillions · 26/06/2024 08:24

Yes I think its bad that shops, restaurants and even churches have to remind people to wear clothes.
Totally crazy that anyone thinks it’s acceptable to not be dressed.
You are not in a swimming pool or within your own home.

Inspireme2 · 26/06/2024 08:43

How can you compare 🤣
Ridiculous post!

deydododatdodontdeydo · 26/06/2024 08:46

I was going to reply but then reading the replies I don't think this is a serious thread.
I saw a video yesterday of a women in a supermarker in a very skimpy bikini and high heels in a supermarket.
The man filming her thought it was unacceptable but many of the commenters thought it was fine.

ReadtheReviews · 26/06/2024 08:59

New York subway allows both men and women to be topless on it. It was a legal battle that the women won.
I agree, it looks pretty scummy whoever does it.

They've started doing it round me OP, always the simpletons. You can see them looking around for a reaction.

If a boy at school.grabbed a girl's chest would it be the same as a girl grabbing a boy's chest?

A boy would grab a girls chest out of sexual arousal.

Women cannot go topless because of men's arousal.

Breasts are not genitalia, the reason they exist is to feed babies. In many, many cultures and tribes women will show their breasts (but not their genitalia) and it's completely normal.

I hate it. I don’t want to see someone’s sweaty body. That’s what tops are for, to conceal it.

Sunbathing and back garden fine. Don’t want to see it otherwise.

So which bits of sweaty body are acceptable to you? Or do people have to be covered top to toe? How do you decide? Is it ok for women to wear a crop top and show their sweaty body? How about if they are slim/fat? What about if the man is not sweaty and is entirely dry?

I’m not keen any any over exposed flesh. Crop tops are fine and fine on
men too if they want to wear them.

l just don’t like topless in public. Male or female thin or fat. Why do supermarkets ban it if it’s that acceptable?
