Shirtless men

The hot weather has brought them all out where I live. I took DS to the barbers after school and there was a guy in there getting his hair cut, shirtless, in just a pair of shorts. No one batted an eyelid.

I didn't feel offended or sexually aroused, but I did think, what would happen if women did the same? Would we be regarded as mad? Might someone call the police? Would we get sexually assaulted? I think all of these are probable outcomes. Just pondering the double standard!

I don't want to see men without shirts except in places where it would be acceptable for women to be likewise.

SplendidUtterly · 26/06/2024 16:04

I only ever see scrawny, casper the ghost looking men doing this or morbidly obese men with their ass cracks showing. It's grim.

Branster · 26/06/2024 16:07

Not on the same level, but some men pee in public (out of view or nit, it doesn't matter).
I wouldn't want to pee in public as much as I wouldn't want to go topless in public (bar sometimes sunbathing top less in an appropriate sunbathing environment).
Some men don't read the room, don't care and will always be that way. It doesn't mean women want or should be accepted or not judged for doing the same things. It's called decency.

It's just not that hot.

@thistimelastweek

might not be where you are, but the tarmac is melting here (SE)

Maddy70 · 26/06/2024 16:19

Its just unpleasant. Noone wants sticky sweaty flesh on chairs. No matter what sex Thankfully in the country live in it is illegal to be topless away from a beach

AmelieTaylor · 26/06/2024 16:38

I don't care how many men go topless. It's just a torso fgs. Obviously more 'easy on the eye' if they're fit & aren't emulsion white. But I don't care if they have a beer belly, why would I.

I don't care if women want to go topless either.

My neighbours are rather 'anti clothes'. Don't care about that either.

Theyre just bodies.

id pay Starmer to keep his on though!

Good point. Do you think religion played at part? I need to do some research.

I think it was more the need to protect delicate or vulnurable areas areas.

Exactly, beach and pools

BringItOnxxx · 27/06/2024 09:22

In Scotland we call it Taps Aff. Mere hint of sunshine any they're stripping off.

Beekeepingmum · 27/06/2024 11:36

This is an entirely women's issue. It would be the women who judged if women started going around topless. Men wouldn't care (some would be delighted) in the same way as men wouldn't care about men being topless.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 27/06/2024 13:15

female genitalia, breasts in particular, have been sexualised by men

I've read this before on this forum but I don't think it's true.
Women have had nothing to do with sexualising their breasts?

onlytherain · 27/06/2024 14:40

I think this is a hygiene and politeness issue. I don't want someone else's sweat potentially dripping on me or on a seat I might sit on. I also don't want someone's naked body touching me while I sit or stand next to them. I don't care if they are hot or not, young or old, male or female.

What stops you from taking your top off?

Because who wants to give a load of random men a cheap way to jizz in their pants?

It depends what you mean by sexualize. Most women are not getting all hot and bothered by their own tits.
Displaying them to men because men sexualize them is about getting attention and validation from men, not because women sexualize their breasts. However, there are some women who are sexual exhibitionists, meaning they do get off sexually on showing their bodies.

hotdogcharge · 01/07/2024 08:22

I find it aggressive.

jcakey · 01/07/2024 11:49

Yeah, I'm not a fan. I think after all the aggro I had to face when I was trying, discreetly, to breastfeed my hungry baby in public from both men and women, it kind of annoys me when double standards allow men to effectively walk around in their pants "cos they're more comfortable that way". Don't know what you do about it though.

I always wonder where this started - who decided which body parts were to be kept private?
At our earliest / caveman existence, who thought, you know what, on the females let's cover up these bumps at the top, but on the men we'll leave the nips out to get some air.

What about the arse, and genitals? Who decided they should be private, as opposed to, say the back, or the throat?

Women covering their breasts is mostly cultural in Europe.

For centuries, a woman with exposed breasts was quite literally a prostitute or sex slave advertising her sexual availability to men.

It’s why there is still the “slag/whore” sexualised stigma over showing too much cleavage today.

Counter culture movements in modern times, like the naturists, have been trying to dismantle the cultural connection between nudity and sex but with not much success as they are still quite fringe and we see all kinds of pearl clutching over nonsexual nudity in any context other than a few metres of a few beaches.

Yes, totally agree on where we are today.

The question I was asking was more around the very beginning... who decided and how did they decide which body part was private? I'd be really interested to look into this more, now the thought is properly in my head!

My point is, it's unthinkable for us, as women to walk around with our bare breasts on show. Like someone said, it's not illegal but we know it's out of bounds for us. It's like an unspoken rule. I personally would not want to walk around topless, but the option is not really there anyway, is it?

Just look at the censorious attitudes surrounding breastfeeding. And that's without anything on show whatsoever except of a baby's head. Perhaps it's the case that women's bodies are still deemed more taboo than men's. (Although if we're showing them off in the right circumstances, i.e. in ways that titillate men, that of course is a-okay).

I don't understand why they do it. It doesn't keep you cooler; quite the opposite. And is it coincidental how often the non-shirt wearing correlates with non-use of soap/deodorant?

I don't want confronting with these common little blokes' moobs, not to mention their BO, the moment the sun peeks out from behind a cloud. But it's never occurred to me to demand they stop doing it to suit my delicate sensibilities.

That seems to me the fundamental difference between female attitudes and male entitlement.

I hate it. I don’t want to see someone’s sweaty body. That’s what tops are for, to conceal it.

Sunbathing and back garden fine. Don’t want to see it otherwise.

Me too. Especially when I'm at a beach restaurant having a salad and trying not to notice the sweaty, grey-haired chested pot belly opposite me.

Opentooffers · 01/07/2024 23:10

Was it decided by any man that women's breasts are sexual? Or could it have more to do with the simple fact that on being touched, they are far more erogenous for a woman than a man. I've yet to meet a man who claims to have orgasmed through nipple play. They might exist but I bet women on the whole get more out of it than men do.
A man's bare chest is not equal to a woman's and it wasn't down to men deciding that, it's biology.

Lots of men get pleasure from nipple play. Yes, some can orgasm that way if they are super into it. Not many women reach orgasm just from nipple play either. In reality, they are rubbing their thighs together or pressing up against their partner at the same time to indirectly stimulate the clitoris. The same holds true of men. They are probably indirectly stimulating the penis while receiving nipple stimulation.

It matters not a whit how much feeling is there anyway. Any feeling is sufficient for it to be considered an erogenous zone by that definition.
Some people claim they can reach orgasm just from kissing. Is the mouth also an erogenous zone?

It's women's Nipples that are dangerous OP.

Women's Nipp Nipps have to be covered in at least a bikini top or people will be genocided.

Damn women and their lethal nipples.

They would be in some countries
