What a great woman!!

Ms Great Britain contestant to compete make-up free www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-58346534

I too have finally given up on makeup - was wearing less and less but completely stopped now even for work. It helps that I'm genetically lucky to have good skin plus I do eat very well and drink gallons of water.

I hope it's giving a body positive message to my DD and the other girls in my life but I'd love to see more high profile women taking the same stance.

I can't help thinking "A plague on both their houses".

Meaning anyone who thinks cosmetics are necessary, and anyone who gets involved with beauty contests. If someone is in both groups, so much the worse.

This isn't feminism.
If people want to be part of pagents, fine, but don't pretend it's got anything to do with feminism.
I find these things awfully jarring. A young woman I know does them and her 'charity work' seems to consist of her dressing up in a tiara with L'Oréal hair and going to see little girl cancer patients who have lost their own hair. It just smacks a bit of insensitivity to me. As much as I'm sure the little girls like that a 'princess' visited them, I do wonder if they feel sadness and it highlights the loss in their own lives. It just seems a bit too raw for my liking.

And 99% of women are bullied for their looks. This happens to be the 1% of women who were actually pretty and bullied anyway. Not exactly inspiring for us ugly ducklings that stayed ugly.

Lucky her that she's not only beautiful enough to compete but she can compete without makeup. I'm sure the girls in the pagent who aren't lucky enough to have such good skin will feel great if she beats them.Hmm
