Arlene Foster suing Dr Christian

Apparently he tweeted that she was having an affair (without any proof), and the way he put it was a spiteful little jibe about her being a “sanctity of marriage preaching woman” adding “it always comes back to bite them on the arse”
Now I understand he might have an issue with her as I think she was against same sex marriage. But this man always strikes me as an arrogant twat and a nasty piece of work.

I tried to post the link but I’m such a technophobe! it’s on BBC news website

Both are arseholes. Shame theres not a way for them to both lose

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/05/2021 17:19

He didn't just not delete, he engaged with AF's lawyer ON twitter, with a lol below the original tweet.

RedDogsBeg · 27/05/2021 17:22

It is just a pity that, while he asks for compassion and understanding over his own difficulties, he appears never to have extended compassion or understanding to any woman he tweeted about.

His rank hypocrisy knows no bounds.

megletthesecond · 27/05/2021 17:27

Good.
He has been so nasty about women for ages. I'm glad it's finally bitten him on the backside.

HighNetGirth · 27/05/2021 17:30

Also, he was just repeating slurs he had seen online. He had no idea whether or not they were true, and no real investment in them in the way you would if you were, e.g. a journalist who had actually gone out and investigated something.

So the refusal to retract and apologise wasn't principled, it was arrogant and dismissive. Just more nastiness.

nauticant · 27/05/2021 17:35

Retracting would have cost him nothing beyond a small amount of narcissistic injury. He was willing to take his pathetic excuses into court and face massive damages solely to avoid that. What an utter arsehole.

Toseland · 27/05/2021 17:39

I’m confused by his claim that he didn’t want surgery to have his appendix out - surely a Doctor would know this is done by keyhole surgery today? My partner had his appendix taken out around the same year and today has spots bigger than the surgery scar! Is he really a Doctor?

junipertree2 · 27/05/2021 17:45

@Branleuse

That isn't the point.

The DUP's policy on abortion subjects women to terrible cruelty, even women who have suffered rape, girls who have been abused by family members, women who are carrying babies with no hope of life. It contains a fair few odious self-serving men, as Mrs F has just found out - she's been booted from the party leadership in the most underhand way.

I would never vote for them, but how is spreading vile rumours about someone's marriage a fair fight? Idiots like Jessen actually set back the pro-choice and equal marriage cause. Today's result has handily deflected attention from the other ongoing high court case in NI, which has been brought by the Human Rights Commission to force our devolved govt to provide meaningful reproductive healthcare - which they are failing to do.

TeacupDrama · 27/05/2021 18:03

I think today has illustrated what most sensible thinking people knew already just because you disagree vehemently with someone's religious moral, political ethical views does not mean you can call them a rapist or paedophile or adulterer or puppy killer or racist etc if they are not these things or have not done them or libel / slander them in any other way

He said a few years back that he had body dysmorphia and was addicted to the gym.

Which means he knows its an actual mental health condition...

highame · 27/05/2021 18:20

An awful man has been trounced by a woman. Deservedly, he will pay a high price. AF's political stance, for me isn't relevant in this case - no more to say really Grin what a fantastic result. Loved reading the thread

RedToothBrush · 27/05/2021 18:31

Well Arlene got the boot not long ago and Dr Jessen may think twice about what abuse he tweets in future. I'd say that was pretty win - win.

Its just a same about creationist Poots...

Branleuse · 27/05/2021 18:50

@junipertree2 yeah i get that but I care as much about Arlene as I do about Katie Hopkins. Im glad she lost her job. Id celebrate it more though if it wasnt at the hands of CJ

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/05/2021 18:59

Oh dear, poor Dr Christian.

Hope the GMC go after him too.

Fernlake · 27/05/2021 19:00

"My client is grateful to the court for this total vindication, which hopefully will also act as an encouragement and a watershed for all women in public life who have been subject to similar vitriolic attacks on social media."

Lets hope so.

Manderleyagain · 27/05/2021 19:04

People (especially ones with a large following) really should take better care of other people's reputations.

But, I don't think the way he ignored the lawyer's tweet is damning in itself. The number of notifications he must get, and the way they appear on your phone without an immediate context, means he could easily have missed it, or didn't realise it was from her lawyer. As for everything else - not answering the papers, replying with a 'pithy email', not apologising.... What an arrogant prize numpty.

PandorasMailbox · 27/05/2021 19:46

Well, I just popped over to Jessen's Twitter and it looks like he hasn't posted anything for a few months. Not that I can see anyway.

Melroses · 27/05/2021 19:56

I don't think he ignored the lawyer's tweet - he replied 'lol' to the one I saw.
FannyCann · 27/05/2021 20:42

He appears to have thought a court case would be just like batting off a complaint to the GMC.

Funny how other misogynistic doctors are quick to pass judgment and condemn. Hmm

The alternative, Free P Poots, is much much worse!

NiceGerbil · 27/05/2021 20:52

I'm no fan of the DUP obviously- marched when they were going into coalition with the Tories to give the Tories a majority.

However. He's a misogynist bastard.

This bit as well:

'He told the court the tweet had called into question her suitability to hold the office of first minister at a time when delicate negotiations were continuing on the re-establishment of the Stormont executive after three years of deadlock.'

That's hardly trivial is it.

One man who doesn't think twice about posting misogyny day in and day out got what was coming to him. Good.

Now what about all the others.

StrangeLookingParasite · 27/05/2021 21:34

Just what kind of arrogance is involved to behave in the way he's been behaving for the past year and a half? At every step consciously pulling stunts to make things worse?

Because he is sufficiently up himself to believe the law didn't apply to him, something I hope he has been disabused of now.

FannyCann · 27/05/2021 22:02

£125k is a lot of money in a libel case. Foster sued Jessen in the NI courts, not the English courts. What he may not have understood is that Foster is herself a barrister, the NI legal profession is a very small world in which everyone knows everyone else, and he libelled one of their own. Silly boy.

He probably didn't realise this either:

"Belfast based lawyer Mr Tweed is one of the world's most high-profile libel lawyers - his client list has included singers Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and the late Michael Jackson, as well as Hollywood stars Harrison Ford, Nicolas Cage and Liam Neeson."
