Arlene Foster suing Dr Christian

Apparently he tweeted that she was having an affair (without any proof), and the way he put it was a spiteful little jibe about her being a “sanctity of marriage preaching woman” adding “it always comes back to bite them on the arse”
Now I understand he might have an issue with her as I think she was against same sex marriage. But this man always strikes me as an arrogant twat and a nasty piece of work.

I tried to post the link but I’m such a technophobe! it’s on BBC news website

Really auto-carrot - can you not behave yourself for FIVE MINUTES? Grin

Back to the thread - couldn't have happened to a nicer guy! Maybe there is some karma in the world after all.

TheCraicDealer · 27/05/2021 15:45

A mate of mine used to work with her solicitor. He estimates it'll be over 500k he'll have to part with, plus the damages.

Boke.

LazyHorizon · 27/05/2021 15:46

Excellent work, Arlene and team.

The admission that personal vanity almost stopped him seeking life-saving medical help really tells me everything I need to know about him.

PearPickingPorky · 27/05/2021 15:51

He has such contempt for women that he couldn't even manage to summon any respect for the legal system she was using.

Such arrogance. He completely deserves every bit of this.

3peassuit · 27/05/2021 15:53

Never thought I’d say this but well done Arlene.

StrangeLookingParasite · 27/05/2021 15:57

Further aggravating features include the tardy response to the letter of claim, the woefully inadequate and deliberately misleading response, the failure to respond to any subsequent respondence, the failure to publish any form of apology or retraction and his failure to make any offer of compensation, which has resulted in the plaintiff being required to give evidence.”

He is such an arrogant dickhead. And now he's a much poorer arrogant dickhead.

UhtredRagnarson · 27/05/2021 15:59

Absolute radio have sent me a reminder text for their £125k competition. I’m almost tempted to join Twitter and send it to Dr Jessen saying “who couldn’t do with £125k? maybe it’s your lucky day” 😂

CriticalCondition · 27/05/2021 16:02

The costs will be substantial.

Maybe not as high as in a case which was contested from the outset but still very substantial. Jessen didn't engage with it until after Foster had obtained a judgment in default and so there wasn't the usual costly legal back and forth for months and years.

But when he did engage, it went to a hearing over several days for which QCs were brought in. And that is expensive. Very expensive indeed.

Umpteenthiteration · 27/05/2021 16:05

So pleased with this outcome. He is an arrogant idiot - and that's his positive points.

TedImgoingmad · 27/05/2021 16:14

Dare one say narcissist?

I wonder why he does all those programmes about other peoples' less than perfect bodies? To make himself feel superior?

CovidCorvid · 27/05/2021 16:16

Well I can't see his pokey old tv show (is it still even running) and any media appearances paying that well. I wonder if he'll go bankrupt/lose his house.....shame.
BringMeTea · 27/05/2021 16:19

Come on Arlene is inspired. Well played... Grin

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 27/05/2021 16:23

@RoyalCorgi

As an outsider, choosing to fight Arlene on her own patch, in a court run by her mates, Jessen has either been very poorly advised or very naive. Probably both. Rightly or wrongly, posh, English, arrogant & gay isn’t a combination that’s going to get you very far in NI.

While that's true, I don't think Jessen was going to get very far in any court. It's one of the worst defences to a libel action I have ever seen. He didn't produce any evidence to suggest that the tweet was true, or that he might reasonably have thought it was true. He didn't have a good reason for refusing to take it down when asked. He didn't have an excuse for writing "lol" in response to Foster's solicitor's request to take it down. He didn't have a good reason as to why he ignored the papers that were served on him. He made a feeble excuse about his poor mental health, and having to stay at his parents, which the court cast doubt on when it drew attention to a podcast he'd made where he talked about playing table tennis in his own home.

The one thing courts really don't like is people who take the piss out of the legal system. If Jessen had any sense at all, he'd have offered a contrite apology at the outset.

Agree. It does her an injustice to suggest that she won because she was playing to a home crowd. She won because J defamed her and then arrogantly refused to take any mitigating actions.
LizzieSiddal · 27/05/2021 16:24

He’s such a horrible little misogynist, I’m so glad he’s been taught a lesson. Let’s hope this gets a lot of publicity and other little misogynists on Twitter, take note.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/05/2021 16:28

Dr J's wiki page.

He is the author ofDr Christian's Guide to Growing Up(2013), a book aimed at children and adolescents dealing with question about puberty and sexuality.[12][13]He has also written the booksCan I Just Ask?(2010),Dr Christian's Guide to Dealing with the Tricky Stuff(2015) andDr Christian's Guide to You(2016).[14][15][16]

and

Jessen studied medicine as an undergraduate atUniversity College London, graduating in 2001.[1]He holds a MSc degree insexual health, and has a particular interest in HIV andmalaria, which were the focus of his work for two years inKenyaandUganda.[2]As well as his television career, Jessen is a doctor with Doctorcall at 121Harley Street, central London. An advocate for HIV education and testing, in 2015, he was named National HIV Testing Week Ambassador.[3]

I am Shock that he seems unaware of the harm child "marriage" does to children, particularly girls. Does he think cephalo-pelvic disproportion (baby's wider than mother's pelvis) cares about international borders or local cultural expectations?

Bordois · 27/05/2021 16:30

I bet theres quite a few people hitting the delete button on twitter about now 🤣

Tibtom · 27/05/2021 16:34

Well I can't see his pokey old tv show (is it still even running) and any media appearances paying that well. I wonder if he'll go bankrupt/lose his house.....shame.

I sincerely hope not. Arlene deserves to get her costs and damages.

CovidCorvid · 27/05/2021 16:37

If he goes bankrupt and/or has to sell his house AF would be his main debtor so she would get her money still (hopefully).

RedDogsBeg · 27/05/2021 16:40

Well I can't see his pokey old tv show (is it still even running) and any media appearances paying that well. I wonder if he'll go bankrupt/lose his house.....shame.

I can't imagine he'll be getting any media appearances in the future. If the total bill is as big as some are suggesting he's going to have to have a fire sale to cover it.

A salutary lesson indeed, when you are putting yourself out there as a warrior for truth and accountability you'd best be sure that you check the truth of what you are saying and be prepared to face the accountability you demand of others.

@Bordois

I bet theres quite a few people hitting the delete button on twitter about now 🤣
The thing is, thousands of people re-tweeted the false story about Arlene Foster, but most of them had the sense to delete their tweets and - if asked to do so - apologise, once it became clear that the story was false.

Deletions and apologies don't prevent you being successfully sued for defamation, but they make it far less likely, as not many claimants are rich enough to want to risk pursuing a tenuous case. CJ is in going to pay dearly, not so much for the original libel, but for his arrogance in refusing to back down. It's immensely satisfying to watch.

nauticant · 27/05/2021 17:12

It amazes me that he followed Hopkins' example and didn't respond to the initial complaint of defamation by:
deleting the defamation ASAP
getting in touch with the complainant with a sincere looking apology and asking what further remedial action they want
doing whatever is requested, so long as it's reasonable.

Just what kind of arrogance is involved to behave in the way he's been behaving for the past year and a half? At every step consciously pulling stunts to make things worse?

I went back to see how the news is going down on twitter. Still almost support but there are many many people out there who loath this man. But more recently there are signs of Jessen supporters beginning to creep out of their holes.

Bordois · 27/05/2021 17:15

The thing is, thousands of people re-tweeted the false story about Arlene Foster, but most of them had the sense to delete their tweets and - if asked to do so - apologise, once it became clear that the story was false.

I wasn't necessarily thinking about this particular instance. But as you say, most people have the sense to delete!

wonderstuff · 27/05/2021 17:16

What a great result. Couldn't have happened to a more unpleasant person.
There are so many things you could say about AF, can't understand why he started making stuff up!

He's a nasty bully on Twitter, sends a clear message that you can't just say whatever you want with impunity.

HighNetGirth · 27/05/2021 17:17

Dr. CJ certainly does not look his usual ebullient self in the photographs of him at court. It is just a pity that, while he asks for compassion and understanding over his own difficulties, he appears never to have extended compassion or understanding to any woman he tweeted about.

Let's hope his media career ends here.
