Duloxetine (cymbalta) or mirtazipine?

From my other post you may know i'm taking 10mg citalopram which i get on well with apart from the weight gain. I take it more for anxiety/mood stabilisation than deprtession

Doctor has suggested mirtazipine or duloxetine as alternatives. Does anyone have any experience of these and how did they affect you?

TIA

Mirtazepine much more sedative, very helpful if you are having trouble sleeping. Unfortunately some people report increased appetite leading to weight gain - not uncommon.

Duloxetine's main side effect would be nausea

I just tried Mirtazipine. I didn't get on with it at all. I felt like a total zombie and managed to put on 10lbs in just two weeks because the increase in mu appetite was huge.

I know some people on here have found it really helpful though. Different things work for different people, its just trial and error at first.

hi togoornot!

I take the mirtazapine. The weight gain and dopiness is bad at first but then it tends to level out.

I think overall I gained a couple of pounds on it.

It's a case of trial and error I'm afraid to find the one that works for you....

GetDown, how long have you bee taking it?

Tired - is the nausea just a temp thing?

I've been taking it for 8 months now.

Hi,

I have been taking 45mg of mirtazipine for about three months, including while I was pregnant, so I don't really know about weight gain. The first night I took it I nearly fainted going to bed because it totally knocked me out but that literally only lasted one day. I still feel dopey but I think that is more down to the depression than the meds. Try it, I think it has more or less worked for me, but I guess everyone is different.

Good luck.
