I've been taking 10mg citalopram for 4 months and have been getting on really well with it, aprt from gaining 7 pounds since starting it. I've taken seroxat in the past and this also caused weight gain for me (2.5 stone over 2 years!). I exercise 3 times a week and eat quite healthily so that's not the issue. I'm takiing citalopram for anxiety/mood stabilising reasons rather than feeling generally low.

Anyone have any expereince of an ssri that works for anxiety/mood stabilisation that doesn't cause weight gain? I've got review of meds with dr later this week but it would really help to hear about others' experiences.

TIA

i took citalopram but i was on 40mg and i was on it for 2 1/2 years i gain weight by 2 stone extra which made me weigh normal as before i always been 7 stone now 9 but i am happy about it apart from my legs are now bigger (not happy )but i walk a lot and drink plenty and now i am back to 8 stone. i am on it for depression from being badly beaten from an ex and dog attack as his dog bit top half of right arm off now healed but still have dents where it happened and scraped wrist open a couple of times when i got stresse the little one just gives me cuddles now when i get anxiety attacks which helps me hopely coming down on them soon and starting yoga instead.

I lost weight on seroxat, fluoxetine and sertraline. Afaik, fluoxetine is particularly 'good' for appetite control.
I though that was the more common side effect?
Guess it depends how your body reacts to the drug?

Is it making you overweight or just larger than ususal? Maybe you are at a better weight for your height/shape now, I mean?

Sorry can't be of more help!

tigger, sorry to hear your awful experience. Hope you are on the mend now.

I too put on weight (about 10 pounds) over the 14 months that I was on Citalopram (20 mg), but I think it was because I was feeling more relaxed so ate more biscuits
I'm just back on them again now, so am going to be really careful that the same thing doesn't happen over the next few months. Dh says he loves the extra bit of me, but I'd rather not get any more!!

at bottersnike "the extra bit of me" - that's a good way to look at it!
There's more of you to love!
