I have been taking Mirtazipine for a few weeks now. Also taking citalopram and propranolol. I suffer with PND and generalised anxiety.

I have found the Mirtazipine an awful drug. Feel like a total zombie and have been having these awful angry rages.

I'm due to see my GP this morning and I'm going to ask him if I can try something different as just can't keep taking this medication.

Has anyone else found anyhting that works better than the Mirt? Just hoping there are other meds to try.

Hi memoo sorry only just saw your message. Sorry to hear the mirt is making you feel so bad. i found that after 2 weeks use the groggy feeling disappeared, and I do find it's helpful to me now. But they do affect everyone differently so I guess this one's not for you.

I was also on lofepramine for a while, which helped to some degree.

What did the doc say? Have you got an alternative AD?

Hello Getdown, Saw my GP and he has upped my dose of citalopram to 60mg and has also given me some Diazepam to take for a few weeks as well as the propranolol.

He seemed a bit unsure about what to do at first and wanted me to keep taking the Mirt but I had a really bad day on saturday which ended with me locking myself in the bedroom with a kitchen knife.

I'm sure this was the mert causing such awful mood swings as I've not been like that before.

My goodness, how awful!
Isn't it weird how our bodies react differently to different drugs! I couldn't tolerate the citalopram at all myself - 10mg sent me completely over the edge.

Diazepam is great

I had lorazepam myself (v. similar) but restricted myself to only take when I really really needed it i.e. not twice a day or whatever.

take care today. One day at a time. xxx

That sounds awful, hope the 60mg works for you. Diazam is indeed a godsend

I was prescribed Mirtazipine a couple of weeks agobut only took it for 4 days and had to stop as I could barely function, I was so drowsy. I had been on 10mg of citalopram before that but it wasn't doing much, and I like GetDown, couldn't tolerate the 20mg as it gave me awful panic attacks.

I'm cold turkey at the moment (probably stupidly), and getting awful head wooshes and dizzyness, but not feeling quite so anxious or depressed at the moment, so am not sure what t do anymore....

Hi, hope those extra meds help you. Mirtazapine does have drowsiness as a side effect, hence it is best to take it at night I have found.

A similar medication to mirtazapine is venlaflaxine (Efexor XR).

Ouch, cold turkey is tough (I say from experience) .. can you get another Dr's appointment, be honest and maybe ask for referral to a psychiatrist - who specialises in prescribing antidepressents etc.
