Can partners of people suffering from depression be described as carers?

I'm trying to find some way of helping my DH help me and I think he fits the bill as a carer. He gets home from work and pretty much takes over from me the childcare, and a lot of the housework, because I'm usually just too emotionally spent to last much longer.

Any ideas how I can get some help for him?
