I have been on ad's for about three weeks now for depression and at the time I was given the ad's I was also asked if I would like to be referred to a counsellor. I told my GP to put me forward and the appointment is today but I cant think of anything else I would rather do....really worried that I will get there and not want to talk to this total stranger about my problems! Is this normal or am I just being a wimp!

It's just for a chat... you don't have to keep going if you don't want to. They aren't fitting you for a straightjacket! Sometimes it is easier talking to a complete stranger who isn't there to judge.

Well I would tell your counsellor that.

That you're nervous and you feel you're going in for an interview.

Remember you are going into interview this counsellor - you're going to see if she's the right one for you.

She should put you at your ease.

Best of luck with it

it's understandable to feel like you're going to be under the spotlight, but you can say whatever you want, there are no expectations. You can just say 'I feel really tense, I feel nervous/shy etc'. Look at it as a way of looking after yourself - you're actively making things better for yourself, but at first it involves going outside your comfort zone for a bit.
