Did anyone sign a written consent Release of Information (ROI) so their therapist can discuss your therapy progress to your husband, as in your spouse involve with your therapy journey.

Does anyone else here has their husband involve with their therapy treatments and progress?

Yes, you can give formal written consent so your therapist can discuss your treatments and progress with your husband, so he can became involve in your treatment journey, if that what you want.

You sign the written form Release of Information (ROI) give consent to your therapist so she can talk to your husband regarding your progress, treatments, joint discussion about your whole therapy.

I have it, my therapist talk to my husband about my progress, he involved in my therapy.
He does go with me to my therapy session when time allow, but it because he is an Executive a big engineering corporate, he very busy with his work. So most time he couldn't go. So I signed the form and give consent that my therapist can talk to my husband.

I got diagnosed with severe anxiety, depression, and Intermittent Anger Explosive Disorder (IED).

And I wouldn't be able to do it alone without my husband support and involvement in my therapy treatment and progress. If you have mental illness and living with it, you see how scary it is to go through it alone. My husband is my anchor.

How about you, what conditions do you have (if you don't mind share) and do you think your spouse involve with your therapy would be more helfpul to you, or would you rather do it alone?

You’ve made your point OP you signed a document. Still doesn’t make it ethical and still not sure what you’re hoping to achieve.

This. Absolutely bizarre this is allowed but ok

mende2010 · 01/10/2026 22:43

An Authorization for Release of Information (ROI) is an ethical and legal document that allows a therapist to share a client’s protected health information with a designated third party only when the client gives explicit, written consent.

Google say this, not me.

Why do you keep telling us?

You signed because you wanted to. There is no point to this thread. You are happy with your choice. What do you want people to say?

PurpleLovecats · 01/10/2026 23:02

I don’t really know what you want from this thread? Are you hoping to find others with similar stories? I don’t think it’s a form commonly used in the uk (but I may be mistaken) hence asking if you were outside the uk. I think you are as in your other post you talked about your DH paying for medical treatment.

This seems really unethical is your husband abusive?

No, the OP is (based on other threads).

Yep, I was wondering if this is a common thing here in UK, as I am in US (America), and this form is very common in US.

Yep.

Thank you for understanding.

No, the OP is (based on other threads).

Yep, I am the abusive one, I have Anger issue.

People in this thread get it flip around, I am the abusive one. Not my husband.

I have been n therapy for years. And it helps greatly to control my Anger issues. And that is with the help of my husband with me in therapy.

After my first few sessions with my therapist, she see me completely broke down that I couldn't do it without him, as in I couldn't do this therapy without him. That I want him to be in my session. And she let him in but I need to sign the Consent form first in writing.

I told her I am not emotionally or mentally stable enough without him, I need him in my sessions. And I guess she find there a therapeutic reason for him to be present in my sessions. Or maybe money talk. Who cares, as long as he involve in my therapy.

You sound far too dependent on your husband though.

I am, I'm very emotionally depend on him. I have severe anxiety, and he just know how to calm my anxiety.

I signed a consent form that legal by law, my therapist is on board, I'm on board, your husband is on board. That what matter.

I am emotionally depend on him because I have been living with guilts of my abuse to him from my Anger mental illness.

He stays and help me through therapy, and that why he wants to get involve with my therapy too, because he wants to know how my progress go.

I think perhaps your husband should be going to therapy by himself, so that he gains the strength to leave his abuser, temporarily or permanently.

It's hugely wrong for a victim to be thrust into the position of financially and emotionally supporting their abuser, and centering their abuser's feelings and well-being, which is what's happening in your situation. What your therapist is doing is very unethical, and unfair on him.

mende2010 · 01/10/2026 23:59

He doesn't want to go to therapy, he is an Executive at a big engineering corporate, he busy with his career. He not see why he needs therapy, and nobody can force the grown man him go.
And he the one that wants to come to my therapy sessions.

And my therapist said nobody can dictate his life. I cannot dictate his life and his choice for him, stay or not, he is a grown man whom has a choice. What I can do is better myself, be a mentally healthy wife for him.

He a grown old to make the choice for himself, nobody can stop an Executive from leaving, the door is open, he can divorce me anytime he wants.

Nobody is forcing him, he is an Executive at work, nobody is stopping him to divorce me neither, here only need 1 signature for divorce. His signature is enough.

My therapist said she will NOT make any decision for him, he has the choice to leave or stay that his own life to decide. What she can do is help me become mentally healthy.

And if he decided to stay with an abuser, then maybe he has mental health problems himself. Then that is great, 2 people who has mental health problem should be together, so we don't run around hurting other people. You should want us to be together.

Uh huh. A Big Executive, hm? Alright then.

Just for the record, having a highly paid, powerful career doesn't protect one from being vulnerable to domestic abuse or coercive control, and finding it difficult to leave one's abuser, as is clearly shown in your husband's case.

Ah, so now you're blaming your victim, and saying he must deserve/want to be abused by you, and that it's better you're together so you can keep hurting him, instead of someone else?

Wow. I hope this isn't real.

Reporting the thread OP. You’ve moved from pointless repetition to victim blaming and it’s attitudes like this that cause men to stay in relationships which threaten their lives.
