How do you support your child’s mental health?

I’ve been thinking more about children’s mental health lately and how difficult it can be to know when something is just a phase and when they might actually be struggling.
Things like anxiety, low mood, worries about school, friendship problems or becoming withdrawn can sometimes be easy to overlook, especially when children don’t always have the words to explain how they’re feeling.
For parents who have noticed their child struggling emotionally, what were the first signs you noticed? And what actually helped them? Did you talk to the school, GP, CAMHS or seek support elsewhere?
Would be interested to hear what other parents have found helpful.

Are you building up to flogging something?

Depending how old they are, you could get a book and share it with them ( the link I posted was just one book option). If you have concerns I would then speak to the school, then the GP who may decide if a referral is needed or can give you further information. Do you have groups like eg Parent Partnership ( other groups are available) in your area? Hope this gives you a starting point. All the best

Maybe don’t normalise the idea that children will inevitably have MH issues. It seems to be fashionable these days to label normal life problems as MH issues.
