How to combat the mirtazapine munchies?

SSRIs have given me extreme and untenable side effects so am titrating off them. The teeth grinding was becoming dangerous! My GP has suggested Mirtazapine. I was on them 2 years ago for a boit of insomnia. The course was only a month (it worked!) but boy did I eat. I’m now full of anxiety so this would be more long term as this is my first MH incident and it has been on the extreme end.

Any combat? GP did drop hints about the new Wegovy pills but is not allowed to prescribe them together. I could get them privately I imagine.

All advice gratefully received. I need the stability before the crisis team dispatch me into the unknown.

Maybe I posted too late at night to be seen?

Hello, I'm on Mirtazapine 15mg at night for sleeping problems. I did have an increase in appetite and did put on weight (1stone) but it is slowing now and I'm not hungry all the time anymore. Looking online it shows that weight gain/appetite increases usually happen during the first 1 to 3 months and then calms down as your body adjusts.

Thank you Paula! My first brush with MH problems and my experiences with SSRIs have so far been hideous - on my second one and I’ve had all the side effects and no benefits.

I was only on Mirtazapine (also for insomnia) for a few months and gained a stone in that time and half that time was the taper off!
