Waiting for crisis team - menopausal psychosis?

Mg sister who is 53 has been having mental health problems on and off for 2/3 years with the menopause but in the last week, it has got a lot worse and in the last 48 hours, I think she may have developed psychosis.

She is delusional, thinks she has done something wrong at work to do with data protection and wants to hand herself in to the police. She keeps packing her bag to go to prison and has asked me to look after her now adult kids while she is in prison. It has come to a point today where we have had to lock the front door and take the keys away as she wants to drive to the police station.

I’ve rung the crisis team and they’ve spoken to me and her on the phone and they’re sending someone out within 24 hours. She’s never been involved with mental health services before so I don’t know what to expect.

can anyone share what happens with the crisis team? What are the options? Is there anything I can do to help while we wait. I keep trying to reassure her but she’s so agitated, can’t sleep or eat.

I don't hope you find something that works OP.

I’m assuming this is a typo @TheNameWasOnceChosen?

I’m glad she’s been seen and diagnosed and prescribed something to hopefully break this crisis cycle at least. So hard for you and her DH- and really hard to feel so powerless when someone you love is suffering so much.

Woops, I've had a stroke, that or missed an error!

If you want to be a moron then the MH board isn’t the place to do it.

Thanks everyone for your support. It has been really helpful especially as it feels quite scary and lonely at the moment. We don’t want people to know beyond her family and her best friend as my sister is very private and wouldn’t want people to know. So I can’t really speak to anyone about it which is hard. I’m mainly trying to avoid people but this has been helpful to offload.

im so sorry your sister is going through this.
i have some experience dealing w psychosis in my adult DC. You are doing all the right things.

It’s awful when they’re in crisis as you feel so powerless and scared for them.

When DC first presented he was referred to the right service, but he’s a young person so different from what would be available for older adults. Thankfully he did come out of it but he still deals with his crap MH daily.

i hope they can help your sister recover well. Good luck.
