How to feel when a relative you don't know passes away

Hi,

Just found out a relative who I've met once about 35 years ago has passed away.
The rest of my family have seen him more regularly and are quite sad about it. Not sure how to feel about the whole thing as I'm not feeling any sense of particular loss, is this normal?

You don't feel loss because you didn't really know them. It's normal x

It sounds normal to me, I had a similar reaction when a relative passed away as we weren't really close. Whereas when an old friend/colleague died suddenly I found that much, much harder to process.
