Mirtazapine: how was it for you?

I've just completed day 3, and honestly, I think I maybe feel worse than before. I'm getting irritated, angry and snapping at my husband and kids, which is only making me more depressed. I feel dreadful. I'm taking it for perimenopause/PMDD, and for these few days on my cycle, I normally feel fine, good even. But having started the mirtazapine, I feel utterly dreadful... very depressed, irritable and generally rubbish.

So I guess I'm just hoping that will go away, and the antidepressant effect will begin.

Those who have taken it, did you feel like this, and did things improve?

Honestly, it’s really helped me. I still have my moments, but after trying a couple of other ADs first. I realised that mirtazapine does help me. I’m on 30mg at the moment which seems to be the sweet spot. It worked very quickly with me, within a week.

I’ve been on it once December and it’s really helping me. I sleep most nights and I’m much less anxious.I still have bad days but nothing like I was before I started it.

The only downside for me is that I’ve put on weight despite eating more healthily, but I had lost a lot of weight before I started it through my anxiety and depression so I’m just back where I was before losing so maybe this is just my normal ( slightly overweight) weight.

@Thatwasthenthisisbetterexactly the same thing has happened to me with the weight , lost 2- 3 kg due to not eating much due to anxiety . And I eat really healthily , but have put all of it back on with Mirt. I wouldn’t say it makes me more hungry , I just am extremely happy to eat what is put in front of me ! Trying to get on top of it with portion size etc . Otherwise , I am happy being on it and having the best sleep I’ve had in years.

Hello, I’m 4 weeks into 15mg and getting some odd fear feelings and strange intrusive thoughts. My anxiety has made me think it’s the mirtazepine but my GP says due to the acute nature of my anxiety when I started I need to increase my dose. I’m so afraid that if I do these thoughts and feelings of fear will worsen. Looking for some encouragement x

How are you feeling now? I've been on for 8 weeks and wondering whether to increase from 15mg to 30mg. Did you increase?

@lethallycharged did you start at 15mg before you went to 30mg? Did you have side effects on increasing? I feel 15mg isn't doing enough but I'm scared of an increase.
