Need a virtual hug please

I feel really Pathetic writing this ☹️
today I turned 41.
no one remembered apart from my brother and my dad. My best friend of 15 years has, over the last year, slowly but surely pulled away from our friendship for reasons I still don’t understand, and when I asked her for the 4th time at Christmas if I had done something wrong, she said she just feels our friendship has run it’s course. She remains good friends with our wider friend group who have all had nights out over the Hols (going by social media) and I just feel stupidly left out. Not one merry Christmas message, or birthday message today apart from my brother and dad. Hurts like hell and I wish it didn’t. Sitting with a movie on and a glass of wine on my own and just needed to say it out loud (well, on here anyway).

It’s so easy to feel especially alone on a birthday, a day when we feel we should be celebrated. I’m really sorry about your friend. It’s not great she couldn’t give you a fuller explanation, which I’m sure you deserve after all that time. That’s rubbish of her and a bit cowardly.

A close friend withdrew from me and it hurt like hell. It was years ago but I still think about it so I do understand how you feel. I was bewildered. And it does make you feel like you’re back at school! So not absurd at all.

Make this a year to try out new things and maybe build some new relationships? And meanwhile, here’s to you and fabulous 41!

Thank you so much. I’m sorry it happened to you too. I’m taken aback by how much it hurts today, but I think it’s a rotten mix of my birthday and knowing (from social media) the group were out at the weekend without me and it stings.

It's not silly to feel so hurt and perplexed.
It happened to me ten years ago.

I'm also an early Jan birthday op and like you I'm not in a good place so just to say you're not truly alone in the world.
