But I think I have no choice. I have fucked up my whole family’s life so badly I cannot cope with the shame and guilt.
DH and I have made a decision which is going to blow up in our faces. I know in my heart it was the wrong choice but we were in a desperate situation housing wise. We’ve taken on too much and didn’t expect the additional costs involved. We can’t afford the move we’ve made. It’s too late though.
I can’t see a way out. The stress and anxiety is too much for me.

Old defaults

If they're old, already defaulted accounts then the debt collection agencies should be arranging/agreeing a repayment plan in line with your affordability. And this can be (OFTEN is) as low as £5 per month.

Whilst it's not impossible, I have never experienced a situation where a DCA pursued a new CCJ OR enforced an existing CCJ if payments - any payments, even £5pm - were being made. Next steps in 'CCJ territory' are usually reserved for those that don't engage at all with the debt or DCA. Token payers, when limited affordability is shown, are mainly left alone.

If the debts are already defaulted, you can't harm your credit any further by lowering repayments if you're in financial difficulty - unless they pursued a CCJ which is very unlikely as long as you stay in touch and pay something.

In your shoes I would contact the DCA's concerned and propose lower repayments.

If you're struggling, there's just no need to be paying £200 a month towards already defaulted accounts, unless of course you have 40 of them at £5 a month each.

Thank you I will have a look at the debts and see what can be done.

My life up to this point has just been a series of monumental fuck ups. I can’t seem to just be a normal human being who manages their life. I can’t cope with how stupid I am. My children deserve so much better than this. They deserve a mum who can actually do the right thing and doesn’t make stupid mistakes that affects them and their mental health. They deserve better than me.

They deserve to have a mum full stop. My mother left, I'll never know why and it will always be a wound. I know about feeling a failure as a mum, I do feel this very much right now, but it is always better for them to have you. My mother did give me one thing, I know how important it is that Im there no matter what. Since Im in a lot of pain right now it helps to know how important a mums presence is, it keeps me here even when I think I can't cope for a moment more. It sounds like quitting that job was very necessary and I hope you find something better and better paid soon.
