Hi I am reaching out for support before I lose my mind, so I have a anxiety disorder where any time I try to go somewhere busy like a shop or appointment etc I have extreme anxiety the physical side effects are crippling me the doctors have put me on citalopram after venlafaxine and sertraline were not good for me, I am 3 weeks in and just looking for reassurance please, before starting citalopram I could walk my dogs or walk to my mums now my anxiety is so heightened I struggling to leave the house please looking for positive feedback

That’s ok! I know EXACTLY how you feel. One morning you’ll get up and find yourself singing whilst you’re doing your housework. Honestly, the tablets are that good 🤣

The day I can go the shop without anxiety symptoms will be the best day of my life ❤️

I don’t understand why you need to wait 6 weeks before increasing from 10mg as that is such a low dose of Citalopram?

LightSpeeds · 19/09/2024 18:01

Maybe try fluoxetine. After a few years of experiencing significant daily anxiety, Fluoxetine mostly took it away after just a few days of being on it!

So you’re only just over three weeks in and already you are eating a bit, laughing and have minimal side effects. Imagine the difference in another three weeks. ❤️

Myboysmyworld666 · 20/09/2024 11:41

Thank you scared myself today thinking it's not working my doctor said to look at like this if I had broken my leg and she put me on bed rest for 6 weeks that's exactly what I would do, so she wants me to do the same for my mind I am just worried that I havnt left the house for 3 weeks I just freeze then the panic starts 😭x

I forced myself to walk round the block once a day. Took about 5 minutes. Felt elated when I got back. Being out. Breathing fresh air. Change of scene. Try just 5 minutes. It’ll feel like a breakthrough. x

Myboysmyworld666 · 20/09/2024 12:41

Just feel really weird today like water running through my body and tension in my head I am ok when lay down but when I stand feel all woozy if that makes sense like i going to pass out my heart rate is normal and I am eating just feel odd and it's taken me ages to write this message lol

Citalopram is a slow acting drug so upping the dose won't make things any quicker and my doctor has side that upping can have side effects again so want to wait it out if possible

Myboysmyworld666 · 20/09/2024 12:54

I was on 200mg of sertraline for 9 years and it stopped working was then given venlafaxine which was awful so trying citalopram as it meant to be quite a easy drug x

Increasing the dose may take you back to square one. Just keep going. Make sure you eat something even if it’s just some toast x

Myboysmyworld666 · 20/09/2024 13:22

I won't be increasing just going to wait to out a bit longer x

OP, I could have wrote this. I’m on day 10, I think of citalopram and having every symptom your explaining. It’s so awful. I’ve got two young kids so have to run after them and do school run every morning but it is really really hard. Anxiety is a bitch. I’m just letting the meds take there time to work but I honestly look forward to the day that happens.

I was exactly the same - the fear that it wasn't working or I'd have to change and start again was looming and making me feel even worse which to be fair probably made me persevere with the side effects !! But honestly pushing through each day was the best thing I did , you are at the worst possible stage of this journey but every day is a day closer to normal , stick with it things will get so much better !!
