DD having intrusive thoughts about being a ‘bad person’ - how can I help

DD -recently left home and is working and living abroad. A path that she has chosen and we support. New adventures ahead - lots to assimilate and lang difference to deal with too. She is capable, sociable and …..lovely!
She rang yesterday - very tired, very weepy and has this ongoing, destructive feeling that she is a bad person. She has felt this previously- not altogether new.
I have reassured her, we’ve talked about how much she has achieved in being over there, to try to be gentle on herself etc etc.
Can any wise mumsnetters offer any advice about the best way to deal with this from afar? She had an online councillor that she used and is going to get back in touch with her.

You don't have to say what she does but do you think she feels values and appreciated and that's its a positive work environment? Also how well does she manage and decompress from stress at work? Does she have a work/life balance?

Asides from that how is she sleeping/ eating / getting exercise? I find too much exposure to too much information/news/social media can also affect me. Also hormones/periods - maybe helpful to track.

I used to love getting little packages from home when I was living abroad. Vitamins, skin care, a book etc.

hope the counselling helps.

Remind her that bad people don't worry about being bad.

Hey. Sounds a lot like OCD intrusive thoughts. It's quite common with OCD/ anxiety disorders to have thoughts that your a bad person, have done something wrong or are responsible for some wrongdoing.
I have diagnosed OCD and I worry a lot about whether I've done something wrong and haven't noticed or don't remember etc.
@ProvincialLady2024 is right, bad people don't worry about being bad.
OCD action, ocdintrusivethoughts.org and shannon shy - ocd can be defeated FB page might be some useful resources. X
