Are there any success stories of people coping with this illness, aunty has been in hospital after trying to take her life and is back at home under new meds and seems to be improving. Just wondered what support is best offered and really will she get on top of it all and i know it's early days but could this take a long time(she has been depressed for 9yrs now)

Yeah... one of my relatives, actually a couple of them have this illness, one is in a bad way and has 1-1 care in a specialist unit for this illness, the other lives in a house amongst other houses that is set up for people with this and other illnesses to be able to live independently (though there is a warden type person around to help if any problems)
This person is in his 20s and has suffered since a teenager.. since he was diagnosed his life has got better with support from the family and professional help. The family recently took part in writing a book for carers of this illness.. I will try find a link if you like?

3 types of schizophrenia - 80% fall into the one major episode and recover completely.

16% have a few episodes but manage with medication.

4% suffer seriously and may require longer hospital stays.

Try not to worry, the odds are massively in her favour, particularly with good care which will be provided by the community health team.

my aunt has had this from she was 16 and has been in a unit ever since, is now in her late 40's but that is a totally different case, and gps, and pschologists now are more for helping and not locking people up, this is clear from what the fact that ur aunt is hope on meds, try not to worry
