Àny advice please? Ive just summoned up the courage to phone the Samaritans, and got no answer several times. I have severe catastrophic tinnitus so debilitating I've been house bound for two years. No help from GP or any other so called health professional. Thought I'd try Samaritans as last resort and no answer to my calls. I'm going to do it Wednesday when my partner is at work, I can't cope any longer.

There is hope OP. You just need to find the right help. Have you tried the NHS crisis team?

OriginalUsername2 · 31/07/2024 16:12

No experience but this sounds horrendous OP! I would go in person to the GP, it sounds like they need to see your distress.

Yes tried the crisis team a number of times and absolutely useless. Had ambulance out twice, nothing they can do. Tried phoning Samaritans several times and no answer. There's no help when you really need it is the awful truth.

I've been house bound since June 2022, can't wash or eat as this is so severe. Id heard of tinnitus of course but never knew it was this bad.

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. It must be awful for you. I'm afraid I know little about tinnitus. Can you call the local MH crisis line?
Just Google crisis line and your local authority.

It's not my area of expertise but I know some of my colleagues have had success working with tinnitus. Happy to DM you details if you wish.

Did you see this @Lifeisshit25
@Eyesopenwideawake seems really helpful and knowledgeable on other MH threads so maybe one of her colleagues who work with tinnitus would be able to help you?
I know you are in despair but what have you got to lose by trying? It doesn’t seem that things could get much worse for you.

Yes I've already contacted her and got the details. It's for hypnotherapy. Nothing works for tinnitus, we're just told to put up with it, no wonder so many people have killed themselves with this hideous affliction.

@Lifeisshit25 was the practitioner I told you about able to help? No need to reply if you'd prefer not to.

Hi OP,

Im really sorry you are suffering.

I think you have to just give everything a really good try - no matter how much it feels pointless or frustrating. You’ve got to try every single thing possible and give it your all.

You have to believe (and know) that one thing out there will help you - you’ve just got to find it.

meimyself · 03/08/2024 00:38

You said you can hear a noise like an engine revving. Are you a hundred percent that this is a physical sound and not something your brain is making up ? Hope that doesn't come across as insensitive, and I'm really sorry you're living like this

WanderMelRat · 04/08/2024 17:01

How are you getting on today @Lifeisshit25?
Have you managed to speak to the Samaritans or reach out for any other help?

No I haven't called the Samaritans or anyone else. Wouldn't know where else to try now

I know a really good ENT doctor who specialises in this, not sure if Leicester is too far for you but he’s honestly worth his weight in gold, was around £120 to see him which I appreciate is a lot of money but when you’re desperate as I was with my balance issues, it’s worth it. If you want details just let me know. I’ve experienced mild tinnitus and found it incredibly irritating so I can’t imagine how you feel and agree that the support out there is lacking massively.
